Tip 1: When deep cleaning a large space, such as your family room, you should move furniture to vacuum underneath. If you don’t do this, expect dust and debris under the furniture to find its way out into the open.

Tip 3: Clean under the fridge using a vacuum extension specially made for this purpose. Plus, you may need to move the refrigerator to clean up any spills underneath. While vacuuming underneath the fridge, make sure to also clean off any dust on the coils in the back.

Tip 4: Clean everything out of the fridge, and then wipe it down using a lemon juice and baking soda mixture. Do the same for kitchen cabinets. By wiping everything down, you will remove food crumbs and residue, cutting down on bothersome bugs coming into your home.

Tip 5: Dump a two-liter bottle of Coke into the toilet bowl when cleaning it. This helps remove any stubborn stains or mineral buildup. Also, make sure to get into any cracks and crevices around the toilet seat, including the hinges where the seat attaches to the toilet bowl.

Tip 6: When cleaning, start from the top and work your way down. Begin by cleaning the mirrors, then the vanity countertops, followed by the toilet and then the bathtub. Finish up by sweeping and mopping the floor. And don’t forget to clean the floor rug.

Tip 7: In addition to vacuuming the floor in the bedroom, vacuum underneath the bed. You may need to remove the mattress and box springs for better access to the floor underneath. You should also move other pieces of furniture when cleaning, including dressers, nightstands, and other items.

Tip 8: Dead skin and oils build up in our sheets and blankets over time, attracting dust mites and other pesky pests. Wash all bedding, including sheets, blankets, and pillowcases to help prevent this. If necessary, flip the mattress — though keep in mind that you shouldn’t flip certain mattress types, such as pillow tops.

Tip 9: When performing a deep cleaning of the laundry room, vacuum out the dryer hose. Over time, lint builds up in the vent and hose, which can lead to a fire if it’s not removed occasionally. You can use a brush designed for this or a vacuum with an extension.

Tip 10: Clean out any air vents throughout your home. Air vents are prime areas that collect small objects, such as food and toys. You can use a vacuum to remove smaller items and debris.
