There are many things that we can hardly throw away because of their sentimental value. And some things are too useful to declutter. Most of the grandmas just know this too well.
As they have gained lots of life skills and lessons, they are so creative with many things including saving money. And one of their ways to save some penny is to avoid throwing away old things. What they do is they think of clever ways to make them useful again.
These are 12 things that grandma would probably not throw away and use them instead:
1. Mason Jars
One of the most useful things that you can see in any part of the house is a mason jar. Aside from using it as storage, it can also be your flower vase, candle holders, soap dispenser, and many more. To be honest, there are too many to mention. So consider yourself lucky if you’ve got lost of mason jars at home.
2. Coins
Pennies are truly valuable. But once it loses its value over time, you can still use them. They can work well as beverage coasters. Aside from that, you can also use them as perfect decorations on your wall. It won’t cost you too much if you would use them to achieve a beautiful penny floor.
3. Citrus Peels
Do you want natural and non-toxic disinfectants? Citrus peels are the answer. Just soak them in a hot water and it will do its job as a cleaner. Not to mention that it will also leave a fresh smell on surfaces that you would clean.
4. Bedsheets
Aside from giving us a cozy feeling, bed sheets have many uses too. If they’re worn out, getting rid of them isn’t the best way. How about using them to make aprons, pajama pants, or doll clothes? It’s such a cool idea, right?
5. Egg Shells
Eggs are everyone’s favorite because of its health benefits and comforting taste. Turns out, its shells are very useful too especially with your plants. It scares off pests from destroying your plants. You can also spread eggshells on garden beds as it can be a source of calcium for the soil.
6. Used Dryer Sheets
If you hate dust, here’s a piece of advice: Don’t throw away your used dryer sheets. Instead, use them to clean dusty surfaces. Dryer sheets can amazingly absorb and trap dust.
7. Wine or Beer Bottles
There are many ways to make money out of wine and beer bottles. Aside from that, they can become a classy flower vase too. This photo on top just says it all.
8. Vegetable Scraps
Veggie scraps are actually perfect to make vegetable broth or stock. Adding olive oil, salt, pepper, and any other spices can make it tastier. You’ll just need to leave it on the stove for 30-60 minutes!

9. Newspapers
News sheets are undoubtedly filled with information that everyone must know. Aside from that fact, there are actually lots of ways to reuse them. You can use them when you’re lining your cabinets or shelves at home. When you run out of bubble wrap, you can also use newspapers to pack fragile items.
10. Aluminum Foil
Aluminum foil is known for being great food storage. But it can also be used to scrub pots and pans. Surprisingly, it can also sharpen scissors.
11. Buttons
If you would check your grandma’s sewing kit, you would probably see some shirt buttons. It’s because this little thing can be reused over again. If your favorite shirt loses one of its buttons, you can definitely replace it with another one.
12. Soap Scraps
When your soap has become too small, don’t throw it away. Collect all your soap scraps and put them inside an old stocking. This can be your soap pouch and it’s helpful to keep your sink clean.
