When you think of coffee filters, it seems they only have one purpose … to filter your coffee, right? However, readers of the Crafty Morning blog are using coffee filters for some basic but important tasks at home. From using filters to help in potting plants to using them in potty-training cleanup, to cleaning glasses and windows with them, check out these super helpful coffee filter hacks for common tasks around your house.

If you use a coffee filter with food, remember to buy unbleached filters.

Scrubbing Pads

Because coffee filters are incredibly durable, you can use them to scrub skillets, roasting pans, or just about any pan or dish. They won’t leave any scratches on your pans. Then after you use them, just throw them in the trash.

Flower Pots

This handy hack helps keep flower pots tidier. Just place a coffee filter in the bottom of the planter, and then add in the potting soil. The filter will keep the soil from leaking out of the bottom of the planter.

How in the world can you use coffee filters to help with potty training cleanup? Easy! Just put one filter in the bottom of the potty-training toilet. Then after your child takes a #2 potty break, remove it, wrap it up in a sealed bag, and throw it away. This makes cleanup easier.

Odor Eliminator

This hack is genius! Add some baking soda to a coffee filter, tie it securely shuts, and put it in your gym bag or shoes. This helps eliminate nasty odors.

Moving supplies, such as packing materials, can get really expensive. Instead, use coffee filters to separate pots, pans, and plates the next time you move. This is a less-expensive way to protect dishes from scratches while you move.

Drip Catcher

Hand your children one coffee filter each when they’re eating a messy treat, like ice cream or Popsicles. They can just hold the filter under the treat, and it will catch any messy drips.

Coffee filters are perfect to use as a snack bowl. Use a filter to hold popcorn, chips, or any delicious treat. You can even reuse the filter by shaking out the popcorn or chip crumbs and storing it for another use.

Cell Phone Cleaner

Much like using a coffee filter to clean your glasses, you can also use one to clean your cell phone or other device screens. It doesn’t leave scratches, and it perfectly cleans off smudges without leaving any lint behind.

Grease Absorbers

Some creative individuals use coffee filters to soak up grease from fried foods. They reportedly work to soak up the grease just like a paper towel would.

Spoon Rest

Double up a couple of coffee filters to use as a spoon rest while you’re cooking. This helps keep your countertops cleaner and makes after-dinner cleanup a breeze.

Baking “Gloves”

You can even use a coffee filter to grease baking pans so you don’t get the grease on your hands. Remember to use unbleached filters for this hack and any coffee-filter hacks that involve food.
