Decorating your home can set it apart from your neighbor’s, friend’s and family’s homes. On the downside, buying decor items to place around your home can be expensive. Fortunately, you do have some cheap alternatives when decorating your home on a budget.

Here are some awesome DIY decor projects for around your home that won’t break the bank.

Floating Book Shelf

You can create the illusion that books are floating on your wall with this DIY project from Insider. All you need are some metal wall brackets and accompanying hardware, and a drill. Space the shelves so that they are only four-and-a-half inches apart. Then, simply insert the brackets into slits cut into the bottom of the book jacket on the hardcover book that forms the base for the shelf.

Make-Your-Own Nightstand

If you have a small table that you no longer use, turn it into a nightstand for your bedroom. Either remove the connectors if it is extendable, or cut it in half with a saw if it’s a complete piece. If you drink a lot of wine, you probably end up throwing your old wine corks away. Put them to good use by using them to make a wine cork jewelry rack. Simply affix the wine corks inside of a picture frame and then twist some ceiling hooks into the corks. Hang your jewelry from these hooks for a simple storage solution.

Make an old chair look like new by covering it with faux fur. All you need for this project is the faux fur material, a hot glue gun, and a staple gun. You can secure the fabric to the seat using the glue gun. Finish wrapping the fabric around the rest of the chair and secure it to the bottom of the seat using the staple gun.
