Located in the United Kingdom, on a tiny little island, sits the cottage of your dreams. Ripped straight from the pages of a fairy tale, the historic structure was built in the 1700’s and once served as a storeroom for a neighboring mill – now, it’s one of the most charming cottages we’ve ever come across.
Available as a rental on Unique Home Stays, the cottage sits on a triangular shaped island surrounded by sycamore trees and babbling brooks on each side.
The romantic tiny home can only be accessed via humpback bridge that’s wide enough for one car. Plus, since you’re the only ones on the island, you have a little slice of heaven all to yourself.
The interior of the cabin is gorgeously decorated; mixing rustic elements with luxurious touches.
Walking through the front doors of the Filly Island cottage, you’ll step into the great room. The seating area features a comfy sofa and armchair, along with a woodstove; the perfect space for relaxing or enjoying great conversation with friends. Tall vaulted ceilings make the space feel open and large.
The seating area flows into the fully-functioning kitchen with small dining area.
Wooden beams and corrugated galvanized metal give the cottage a beautiful and industrial element. Upcycled materials were used to decorate the entire home – including the rusty buckets used as light fixtures.
It’s hard not to fall in love with the home’s lovely kitchen.
As with the rest of the home, the kitchen blends new and old. Wire racks provide storage for dishware, while unfinished and weathered wood was used for the cabinetry. The kitchen features a deep-basin farmhouse sink, electric oven, and microwave.
The dining table is made from a vintage laundry mangle – a manual machine used to squeeze water from wet laundry.
The walls of the Filly Island cottage were kept a stark white, allowing all of the home’s unique architecture and decor to stand out and speak for themselves.
Through the single door to the left of the kitchen, you’ll enter the home’s bedroom.
The bedroom is simple, modest, and humble. It features a bed with minimal decor and furnishings – the bright British flag bedspread gives the room a playful pop of color. A rod hangs near the bed for clothing storage, and a ladder provides access to a loft for additional storage as well. A sliding farmhouse door gives entry to the home’s bathroom and is also a great choice when it comes to saving space.
The bathroom is chock full of unique features – like a refurbished antique sink and bright red clawfoot tub.
Whitewashed wood gives the room a farm-house feel while keeping the space bright, open, and airy. A towel warmer sits near the tub mixing modern elements with the home’s historic past.
