Imagine falling asleep to the gentle swaying of the water in Boston Harbor and waking up to views of the stunning Boston skyline – all while spending time with the people you love. Sounds amazing, right?
The White Elephant Floating Inn is a 3-bedroom houseboat that sleeps up to ten people – and the interior is absolutely to die for.
Available for rent on Airbnb or HomeAway, this one-of-a-kind houseboat has more space and far more charm than many traditional homes. The home was built from scratch, so the interior is chock full of handcrafted details.
The main floor of the White Elephant boasts an open floor plan.
The great room consists of the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The wood floors and wood paneling on the walls give the room a rustic and cozy feel. A large wrap-around sofa opens up to the center of the room – perfect for entertaining friends and family.
Here’s another view from the opposite angle.
From this angle, you can see the front door, the stairs to the second floor, and the helm of the houseboat as well. The entire main floor is surrounded by large windows, which creates a bright and welcoming space.
The small kitchen is too adorable for words.
The kitchen is compact but has everything you could possibly need for a weekend away. There is a full-sized refrigerator, stove and oven (which has been upgraded since this photo), a microwave, and sink. The hand-built cabinets are clean and simple, and the coral-colored tile backsplash was a beautiful choice.
The shared bathroom is spacious and bright.
The white walls, cabinetry, and fixtures in the bathroom make the space feel much larger than it really is, they’ve also chosen to go with a lighter colored wood for the flooring – a great trick for any small room. There is a stand-up shower, toilet, and a vanity with medicine cabinet.
The spacious master bedroom features a king-size bed.
Wood is certainly the central theme in this warm and welcoming room. A gorgeous hand-built headboard has built-in shelves, and windows on either side of the bed let in lots of sunshine. There is also a handcrafted stained glass window for an added element of detail and charm.
The second bathroom upstairs boasts an incredible redwood vanity with brass basin.
Not only is the vanity shelf a conversation piece, but so is the base of the structure. The tribal pattern adds an interesting element to the room. The designers of the houseboat opted for marble tile flooring in this bathroom.
Another bedroom features a queen-size bed.
Unlike the master bedroom, this room boasts a light wood for the floors and wood paneling on the walls. Decor was kept to a minimum, as the view from the windows is better than any piece of artwork you could find.
The third bedroom has clever built-in nooks that serve as two extra sleeping spaces.
If you have kids staying with you on the White Elephant, this room is a child’s dream come true. How fun are those sleeping nooks? One is a twin-size, and the other is a full. In addition to the super cute nooks, there is also a double bed as well.
As if the interior of the home wasn’t impressive enough – check out the rooftop deck.
“After a long day of touring the city there is nothing better than relaxing on your own private sun deck with a cold drink in hand, listening to the soothing sounds of the ocean as you enjoy the fantastic view of Boston’s city skyline!” the Airbnb listing says.
