Almost everyone collects something. For some, it’s cars while for others it’s figurines. But for a lot of people, including both men and women, their favorite thing to collect is shoes. That sounds great, right? Well, it is but it also comes with some challenges. Especially for those who have an abundance of shoes, keeping them organized can be a real headache.
Thankfully, 30 people shared brilliant ways to keep shoes neat and orderly. If you’re a shoe enthusiast, we’re certain one or more of these organization tips will work for you.
1. Handy hooks
You can find plastic hooks at any dollar store. Simply attach them to the wall for an instant hack. Placing them near the floor keeps the shoes organized and relatively out of sight.
2. Old drawer
This is so clever. Put shoes inside an old dresser drawer. By adding four casters to the bottom, it’ll slide easily in and out.
3. Tall rack
Another option is to place your shoes on a tall rack. A wine rack similar to this would also work. And it’ll hold quite a few pair.
4. Plain cardboard
Using ordinary cardboard, you can do this. Painting it before using it to store shoes will make it blend in with any bedroom décor. So simple yet brilliant.
5. Shelf molding
For this, simply remove unused shelves in a closet. Then, use the molding to hold your shoes. If there isn’t any molding in place, you can easily cut wood and attach it to the wall inside of a closet.
6. Milk crates
It’s not hard to find milk crates. For this, you could use those made of wood or plastic. The great thing about this…you can stack several of them, ideal for a mudroom.
7. Wooden ladder
Instead of throwing out an old wooden ladder, use it to keep your shoes organized. Depending on where you put it, you can paint the ladder or leave it natural. Either way, this works incredibly well.
8. Storage bench
Benches with hidden storage are super popular. But rather than use one for blankets, store shoes inside. You could even place one in the hallway and no one would be the wiser.
9. PVC pipe
Here’s another great idea for a mudroom or entryway. Secure painted PVC pipe to a piece of wood. That way, you never have to worry about getting mud or dirt on the floor again.
10. Tension rods
Tension rods used to hang curtains also work great for organizing shoes. Just place them far enough back against the wall so shoes have a place to rest. This only takes minutes to implement.
11. Modified crate
First, paint a wooden milk crate. Then, add a decorative handle and casters. Something like this would be perfect for a teenager’s room. Now, you’ve got a stylish way to keep shoes organized.
12. Wood pallets
A lot of people throw these out, which is a real shame. Just add wood supports to connect them. In no time, you’ll have two or more surfaces for shoes depending on the number of pallets used.
13. Corner unit
This is ideal for people who live in small apartments. With limited storage space, this person built a hallway corner unit. Along with shelves, it’ll hold hats, scarfs, purses, and even knick-knacks.
14. River rock tray
Do you live in a region that gets a lot of rain or snow? Are you tired of dealing with wet/muddy floors? All you need to do is place a tray filled with river rock by the door.
15. Baker’s rack
While some people still use a baker’s rack, they’ve kind of gone out of style. But you can repurpose one to keep your shoes organized. This is a fantastic idea.
16. Dowel rods
Almost every closet has wasted wall space. For your shoes, here’s an excellent hack. Hang dowel rods.
17. Cobblestone tray
Instead of river rock, this person built a tray filled with cobblestone. They also made it longer. This is awesome…especially for a larger family.
18. Plastic containers
Yes, a lot of people store their shoes in plastic containers. But few do this. Attach a photo of the shoes so you know exactly what’s in each one.
19. Cabinet knobs
How cool is this? Simply attach several cabinet knobs to pieces of wood secured to a wall. You’ll be amazed at just how well this works for all kinds of shoes.
20. Hanging crates
Wow…people come up with so many amazing options using milk crates. In this case, they hung them on the wall in a mudroom. They keep shoes organized and without taking up floor space.
21. Wooden box
For very little money, you can make a wooden box. Then, add inserts. The result…a perfect place to store flip-flops.
22. Build a rack
You don’t need carpentry skills to make a shoe rack. And you can find easy-to-follow plans online. By building a rack, you can choose whatever dimensions you want.
23. Hallway baskets or boxes
Hallway tables or sideboards as some people call them are all the rage. For shoes, set either wicker or wooden boxes beneath yours. This is a convenient solution.
24. Repurposed hall tree
Organization has never been so easy. This person distressed an existing hall tree. Then, they used the bottom drawers for shoes.
25. Wicker basket
This is way too easy. Underneath a bench or hall tree, you can place a wicker basket. As with some of the other hacks, this is a great way to keep shoes organized and out of sight.
26. Industrial shoe rack
If your home has an industrial look and feel, you’ll love this. All you need are two thick pieces of stained wood and metal pipe. With a little bit of construction, you’ll end up with an incredible finished project.
27. Entertainment center
Don’t toss out your old entertainment center. Or if someone offers you one, take it. With a little bit of paint and adding one or more doors, you can repurpose it into a beautiful shoe rack.
28. Slanted shelves
Again, you don’t have to be a master craftsman to do this. By replacing straight shelves with slanted ones, you can see all our shoes at one glance. This is a great redesign for the budget-minded.
29. Foyer bench
While making this might be a little challenging, it’s worth the effort. Now that so many people are at home, this would be a great project to tackle. And the aesthetics will enhance the appearance of your foyer.
30. Stacked shelves
Unbelievably fantastic. If you or someone in your family loves tennis shoes, this is for you. By attaching shelves to a wall with the right space in between, shoes will stay in place on their own.
