Amongst lush greenery in beautiful Malvern Hills, UK, sits an enchanting cottage that seems to be frozen in time. Let’s take a look inside the Wishbone Cottage.
Nestled in between an old fruit farm and a fishing pond, the Wishbone was originally a barn built in the 15th century. Outside, it looks like it has been forgotten and overgrown with crawling ivy. An old, rickety, wood door and brick walls give no clue as to the treasure that’s hidden inside.
Wishbone is a Grade-II listed structure and features original timber, stone walls, and vaulted truss ceilings.
White-washed walls make the great room feel open, airy, and spacious. The seating area boasts a comfy, velvet sofa with eclectic throw pillows and a vintage chest used as the coffee table. The open floor plan flows from the living to the dining space and kitchen.
The kitchen and dining table are located just behind the seating area.
The kitchen might not be the largest ‘room’ in the house, but it has every amenity you could possibly need. There is an Everhot Range cooker, fridge, small freezer, dishwasher, and microwave. There is even a small washing machine located just off the dining space.
Walk along the original brick floors, past the dining table, to reach the cozy bedroom with en-suite bathroom.
The bedroom is behind a thick curtain door and features a king-size bed with crisp linens and a simple color scheme. There is a small space heater located next to the bed, so guests don’t have to worry about staying warm.
The home might be over 500-years-old, but it has all of the modern luxuries of today – like this swoon-worthy bathroom.
The cottage mixes rustic elements with the new, like this antique vanity with sink and the glass walk-in rain shower. Guests of the Wishbone are able to experience a little bit of history, with all of the comforts of home (or a 5-star hotel!).
Head upstairs to reach the charming and inviting hayloft that has been converted into a den.
“The upstairs hayloft has a pastoral hideout feel and is great for afternoon naps, featuring a wooden door which swings open to the wilderness,” the listing says on Unique Home Stays.
The best part of the home, however, is arguably the outdoor cobblestoned patio just off the living room.
Light blue barn doors open up to an incredible cobbled patio set with dining table, lanterns, and terracotta pots filled with fresh herbs. Enjoy breakfast or lunch while dining al fresco, overlooking the rolling hills, or sip on a glass of wine by the flames of the fire in the firepit.
The absolutely gorgeous cottage has been featured in multiple magazines and websites such as Ideal Home, Country Living, and Daily Mail – many of them calling it the most charming, cutest, rental on the market.
The surrounding area is nothing short of breathtaking.
“Tumbling down the side of a forested ridge, the 9 mile-long stretch of volcanic rock which comprises the Malvern Hills is a must. Take your pick from a network of scenic walking trails through unspoilt countryside, or unwind on a gentle journey downstream on a canoe tour of the river Wye. Whatever the day’s adventures bring, you can be sure of a magical evening back at Wishbone,” Unique Home Stays says.
