Over the years, we spend a ridiculous amount of money on cosmetic products, not realizing that we can easily make many of these products at home with just a few simple ingredients and at a fraction of the cost. Not only that, but when making these items at home, you know exactly what you’re putting into them, free from unknown preservatives, mysterious perfumes, and severe chemicals.

Below includes a list, and shortened tutorial, of 7 DIY Cosmetic Products that will make your body, and your wallet, very happy.

  1. Anti-Frizz Hair Conditioner

When shopping, the various different choices of conditioner can be overwhelming, with each company selling their own ‘special’ ingredients. Rather than spending time trying to sort through these countless options, try making your own conditioner out of two simple ingredients: Apple Cider Vinegar and Water.

Apple Cider Vinegar reduces frizz by tightening hair cuticles and removing excess buildup, helping to restore your hair’s natural pH. The best part? When your hair fully dries, the vinegar smell completely disappears, leaving you with shiny, healthy hair.

  1. Exfoliating Face Wash

The skin on our face is extremely sensitive and most susceptible to break outs. Unfortunately, many cosmetic companies pack facial washes with various chemicals and strange scents. In this easy-to-make face wash, you only need to combine 3 items: Coffee grounds, Brown Sugar, and Olive Oil.

The texture of the Brown Sugar and Coffee Grounds create a rough consistency that works great in eliminating dead skin cells while also working to regenerate new skin cells, giving your face a fresh, glowing look.

  1. Beeswax Lip Balm

Beeswax is an element commonly used in lip balms as it’s a natural substance that seals in moisture, while protecting lips against harsh weather conditions. By simply combining Beeswax and Coconut Oil, you can create your own lip balm free from harmful substances. Beeswax can be easily found online or at a local health food store.

Simply melt the Beeswax and Coconut oil, then wait for the substance to cool. The Beeswax’s anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties help to heal cracks caused by dryness and dehydration.

  1. Teeth Whitening Toothpaste

Your smile is one of the first things people notice when you meet them, however attaining a bright, white smile can sometimes be a challenge. Store-bought teeth whiteners can be expensive and teeth whitening packages provided by dentists are even more pricey, plus they’re packed with chemicals. Opt for an effective, at-home treatment by simply combining Coconut Oil and Baking Soda into a paste and apply to your pearly whites.

While using oil as a solution to clean your teeth and improve oral hygiene may seem odd, this technique, called “oil pulling” has been a practice used for thousands of years. Due to the antifungal and anti-microbial properties of the oil, it works great to sanitize your mouth, while the baking soda acts as a whitening agent. Also, if you want to add flavor to your toothpaste, add in a few drops of your favorite edible essential oil such as peppermint, spearmint, or vanilla.

  1. Shea Butter Body Lotion

Shea Butter is a substance extracted from the nuts of a Shea Tree. Naturally, Shea Butter contains a handful of vitamins such as Vitamin A and Vitamin E, properties which help to improve a number of skin conditions such as eczema and cracked skin by increasing blood circulation and locking in moisture. Shea Butter can also easily be found online or at a local health food store.

A formula of Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, and Sweet Almond Oil create the perfect body lotion that applies to skin smoothly and works effectively. The cherry on top? This body lotion is chemical-free and made in the comfort of your own home, saving time and money from constantly having to buy new lotions.

  1. Eye-Makeup Remover

Some eye makeup can be persistent and difficult to remove, causing us to rub our eyes repeatedly with the same solution, hoping to eventually remove any excess makeup. This can cause issues as the skin around our eyes are very delicate. Through using a dual mixture of Witch Hazel and Jojoba Oil, you can make your own safe and effective eye-makeup remover.

The oil acts a powerful tool for removing the excess residue from the eyes, even working great on waterproof products.

  1. Silky Shaving Cream

Shaving Creams bought in stores typically come in a variety of scents, colors, and brands. Additionally, much of the cost we pay as consumers, stems from the packaging of the product, rather than the actual product inside. Easily, you can make your own shaving cream at home by including Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, an additional oil of choice (grapeseed or olive), and an optional essential oil or castille soap for preference.

Once the Shea Butter and oils have melted, remove from heat . Set the formula in the fridge to cool, then whip.
