Living in a tiny home is not every family’s first option, but it could be the best one, just like this family whose father works for the military.

Russel was from the United States and had to move to New Zealand. There, his work required him to transfer from one place to another. He and his wife, Sarah, and their two daughters, thought there should be a more affordable and sustainable way of living.

Their solution? A mobile tiny house that they could take with them wherever they go. Let’s take a quick tour as we highlight the best parts of their tiny home.

A spacious deck for family fun.

The one thing you’ll notice in their home is the spacious deck outside. It has a bench that could fit all four of them, and they can sit outside and enjoy their surroundings.

The weather in New Zealand also complements this idea of having a deck since there’s always a cool breeze outside, and it doesn’t get too cold during the winter.

No living area, but a bigger kitchen.

The moment you step inside their tiny home, you notice that they don’t have a living room. Russel said that they sacrificed that to have ample space for the rest of the rooms in their home. They have a deck outside, anyway.

You can say that decision paid off once you see their full-sized kitchen. It has everything they need – from dishwasher to oven – and Sarah has a lot of prep space with that kitchen counter.

Russel also built a foldable bench that opens into a dining table. It fits all four of them, and they have enough space for dining or playing in it.

The luxury of bathroom space.

We often see many tiny houses would sacrifice a bit of bathroom space, but not for this family. Their bathroom is spacious and has complete facilities. They have the luxury of space they need as a family of four.

Of privacy and closet space.

You don’t often see tiny homes with three bedrooms; having one that is closed out from the rest of the house is already a bonus for most. Russel and Sarah had to utilize their space to accommodate all four of them, which meant having three bedrooms.

Their master’s bedroom is situated downstairs, which is another unique feat in a tiny home where bedrooms mainly were in the loft area. But the two things that are amazing with this room are privacy and having enough closet space.

It is a closed space that provides privacy for the couple. They also have enough closet space at the side, plus more space under their bed. What a luxury!

Two loft bedrooms for two daughters.

Kids usually are okay with staying in one bedroom together, but that changes when they grow older. Russel and Sarah decided that they should build separate rooms for their daughters, so they won’t face that problem when they’re older.

They have separate loft bedrooms, albeit an open one. The girls love spending time together, but they also enjoy a little me-time and a bonus of decorating their room.

The couple also believes that they can easily close out their rooms should they decide they want more privacy when they’re older.
