Renovations can be expensive especially when you’re going to outsource most of the job and materials. But what if we tell you that the simple aesthetic revisions you want can be done by you?

First off, let’s see how you can paint an outline image on a wall.

Get a box you wish to discard. The size of your box depends on the lighting equipment you’ll use but for this example, let’s choose a box that can fit your phone.

Print out the outline of the image you want to paint. Then, using a plastic sheet, trace the image to create a stencil. Cut out a hole on the box large enough to frame the image.

Tape your stencil onto the hole and put your phone inside the box. Using your phone’s flashlight, project the image against the wall you want to paint on.

If you want a cozy wallpaper, may you can try using fabric.

Measure your wall face accordingly so you’d know how much fabric to use. This is an easier method compared to installing wallpaper. But just like any pros, there are cons as well, like the logistics of cleaning it.

We think this is perfect for temporary design needs like theater pieces, showrooms, or room dividers.

If you’re looking for a more rustic finish, you can drive to your local hardware store to get some thin wood planks. Use some of the planks and line them down vertically. Use the remaining for a wood finish that runs perpendicular to the first ones you installed.

You can also choose to use moldings that you can easily install.

To give that old-timey industrial vibe, use red brick molding. Install the panels and line them up so all the bricks are aligned.

Using some paint and plaster, fill in the gaps in the panels. You can also paint the entire molding with white paint. Sand the paint down to reveal the bricks while leaving out the “mortar.” You know have that red-brick house even without the masonry skills.

If you like painting better, there’s also a renovation hack for you!

Use different kinds of stencils so you can express your creativity while decorating your house. You can use a geometric one to create an illusion of a tiled space.

Other stencils you can use are silhouette types that give you a monotone look. You can also opt for stencils with more realistic and colorful designs as you paint over the layers.

“The first one was a great idea, I just sat there and thought, oh, that’s how it’s done. The gluing fabric to a wall? It’s a great idea, don’t get me wrong, I’d have hung the fabric instead, like an old tapestry.” Said another.
