While we all love the warmer temperatures during spring and summer, unfortunately warm weather also heralds the return of various pests, including fleas. Luckily, a wide range of home remedies exist that help get rid of and keep fleas away from you and your home. These represent some of the best home remedies for getting rid of fleas.
Use an Herbal Spray
A herbal spray comprised of lavender, lemon, and witch hazel makes a great way to keep flees at bay. Start by placing the lavender and lemon in a pot of water, allowing it to simmer. Next, place the resulting liquid in spray bottle, preferably one that has a mist setting. Finally, add the witch hazel to the mixture.
Use Apple Cider Vinegar
In addition to many uses, apple cider vinegar can help drive fleas away. Simply mix one-part apple cider vinegar and one-part water in a spray bottle for an effective means to keep fleas out of your home. You can also add a few drops of an essential oil, such as lavender or cedar oil, both which also repel fleas.
Use Salt
Using fine salt is another way to get rid of fleas due to its dehydrating nature. Sprinkle some fine salt onto the carpeting in your home and allow to sit for a few days. Then, vacuum the salt up and empty it into the trash when finished. You can use either regular household salt or sea salt. For added effect add boric acid.
Use Rosemary
Rosemary repels fleas, making it a safe alternative to harmful pesticides. You can either use the rosemary in a wash for your dogs, or, grind it up in a mortar and pestle for spreading on your carpet. In addition, place the rosemary wash in with your bedding to give your sheets and blankets flea-repelling properties.
Use Plants
A variety of plants repel fleas. These plants contain chemicals, oils, and other compounds that fleas cannot stand, keeping them away. Plants that repel fleas include lavender, spearmint, chrysanthemums, and pennyroyal. Simply place them in planters or flower beds around your home to drive fleas away.
Use Diatomaceous Earth
Diatomaceous Earth is a powdery substance made up of fossilized algae and diatoms. Non-toxic to humans, it represents a great home remedy to get rid of fleas. When placing Diatomaceous Earth in your home, use the food-grade option to avoid irritation of the eyes and throat.
Use Baking Soda
Using baking soda before vacuuming is another way to easily get rid of fleas. Spread the baking soda on your carpet and furniture. Next, use a hard brush to work it into the fabric. Finally, vacuum the carpet and furniture, emptying the contents of the vacuum into a bag for immediate disposal in the trash outside.
Use Dish Soap
Please SHARE this with your friends and family.
Create a flea trap using dish soap and a little water. Place warm water mixed with dish soap in rooms with flea activity. The fleas become trapped in the dish soap when they come to drink. You can also use dish soap in your dog’s bath water to kill any fleas on them. Follow up with a brushing using a flea comb.
Getting rid of fleas is easy using the above simple home remedies. Make sure that any method you do use is safe for you, your family, and your pets before trying it at home.
