More and more people are moving away from living in large homes and turning to tiny homes.

One couple who have recently embraced the tiny home lifestyle is Cindy and Kraig.

They own a beautiful tiny home that looks much bigger than it actually is.

Their unique home is only 39 by 10 feet even though it looks and feels much bigger than that.

They’ve been living in their new tiny home for almost six months.

“We helped our daughter out a little bit at one stage and we were sleeping in a sleep-out. After about six months on the sleep-out, we thought actually we can do this, we quite enjoy this. It was a lightbulb, we realized we didn’t need massive space,” Cindy and Kraig told Living Big in a Tiny House.

A sleep-out is an Australian term that means “annex or built-in veranda that once provided extra sleeping accommodation, especially during the warmer months.”

They decided on this new lifestyle because their kids have grown up and have left home.

They also like to travel, so they didn’t want to be tied to a massive place that required a lot of maintenance and money for upkeep.

They shared that their new house is easy to clean, and Cindy points out that Kraig now vacuums the house because it’s so quick to do it.

The design is unusual for a tiny home because they wanted lots of light in the living room and they didn’t want the house to look like a conventional box. They also also wanted it to have some shape.

Their tiny home has a striking look and many people have told them that it doesn’t look like a tiny home.

Visiting friends have even told them that their home is bigger than their apartment in Sydney.

The home is attached to tires which makes it movable and they can bring it elsewhere if needed.

Cindy and Kraig’s tiny home isn’t completely finished yet and they are planning to add a deck which will be as big as one side of the home.

This deck is where they plan to but their bigger pieces of furniture that can accommodate their large family, including their grandchildren.

The house also boasts a gorgeous rural view which includes their vegetable patch.

Sometimes, they see cows looking straight into their kitchen window.

Cindy shares she loves picking herbs and other greens from their garden that she uses in the kitchen, including to make fresh smoothies.

Their neighbor is also a tiny home and Cindy and Kraig have become friends with the young family who lives there.

They swap veggies with each other and they appreciate that their neighbors share the same mindset as them when it comes to tiny home living.

Both tiny homes are off the grid.

Their home has its solar panels on the ground which make them easier to maintain. The home also uses water from a natural spring and has a composting toilet.

Kraig and their son built an extension to the original tiny home which they use as a mud room.

They share that their new mud room makes a big difference when it comes to removing their shoes when its raining and makes entering and leaving the home much more convenient.

When designing their tiny home, they wanted their living and dining areas to be open, light, and spacious.

They’ve achieved their goal by putting in large windows that bring in lots of sunlight and beautiful scenery.

In the living room, they have a spacious couch that turns into a bed that can sleep 3 people.

Under the bed is extra storage space for clothes and other items.

They also built their TV directly into the wall to make it look like a picture frame.

They wanted their home to look clean and they didn’t want anything sticking out of the wall.

The couple also didn’t want to miss anything in their kitchen.

They have a full-size refrigerator, a dishwasher, a stove, and plenty of storage.

“We love it. We’ve baked bread here, I’ve done big dinners. We’ve got everything we need,” Kraig shared.

Their tiny home also has a compact walkway that links together the living room, the bathroom, and the bedroom.

The bathroom has everything you need in a home, including a good-sized shower, a composting toilet, and even a washing machine.

Their comfortable bathroom has a door that leads directly to the outside.

This was important for them so they could easily hang out their laundry without passing the front door.

The door is also in place in case they want to attach an additional pod to the main house in the future.

Their bright and spacious bedroom is located downstairs and has direct access to the outside through a sliding door.

They wanted a ground floor bedroom to future-proof their home for when they get older.

The bedroom will also open to their future deck.

They also have a storage shed where they keep their solar power batteries and other bulky items including weights and hanging racks with their clothes.

Back inside the house, they have stairs that lead up to the loft.

Each step provides additional storage space.

The loft is a beautiful and versatile open space that they use for whatever they need it for.

They use it as a yoga room, a prayer room, meditation space, and for additional storage as well.

The loft can also be a bedroom in the future.

Right now, when their family gets together, their grandkids spend time in the loft using their gadgets while the adults stay downstairs and chat with each other.

When they were asked about tiny house living, “We feel more and more in love with it. Don’t think we could ever go back to a house,” they shared.

Their favorite part about living in a tiny home is they don’t have to worry about power bills anymore and they are also living a greener life.

Cindy and Kraig share that they’re always excited about coming home to their comfortable and cozy home.

They also enjoy seeing green everywhere they look around, instead of lots of neighbors.

Cindy and Kraig also shared that COVID affected them quite severely, including having to close their business.

This also made them decide to move to a tiny home and they said that their stress levels have dropped severely because of this life-changing decision.

“When we get home, we don’t want to leave. We love being home. We have our own, [it’s] cliche but a slice of paradise.” they ended.
