Few things are more gratifying than wearing a creation of your own. Crocheting is a fun pastime that yield’s beautiful results.
Few patterns are more exquisite than the broomstick lace stitch. Though the design may look complicated, this stitch can absolutely be mastered with a proper tutorial.
Here’s how to make a crochet broomstick lace stitch infinity scarf. You’ll need:
- 1 Skein of yarn
- a size US 50 knittle needle
- a 5.5 mm crochet hook
- a darning need
Step 1.) Create a slip knot.
Step 2.) Pull the hook through the loop and then pull the yarn through the loop to make a chain. You’ll want to create 30 chains that are fairly loose like the ones you’ll see below.
Step. 3) Next, stretch the last loop out and place it on your knitting needle. Tighten the loop and leave it loose enough so you can move it up and down on the needle, but not so loose that it falls off. Insert the hook into the next chain and pull your yarn through the chain.
Stretch this loop out and place it on the needle then pull away from the slack so it’s tight around the needle like the other loop. Repeat this for each of the 30 chains.
This is important because the broomstick lace stitch works in multiples of five. If you don’t get thirty loops it won’t come out right.
Step 4.) Then pull one of the strands of yarn to the back of the needle, this will be your working strand. Let the other one hang down.
Step. 5.) Then take your hook and place it underneath five of your loops and pull your working strand through the five loops. Then chain one and secure the stitch.
Step 6.) Slide your five loops off of the needle. Twist your set of loops that you just secured with the chain stitch.
Step 7.) Slide your finger through the hole of the stitch and make a single crochet stitch over the loops. Do this four more times.
Step 8.) Place your hook underneath the next five loops and pick up your working yarn to make two loops and pull your working yarn through those two loops to secure the two pieces together.
Step 9.) Repeat steps 7 and 8 until all your sets of five loops are done. You should have six circles all together.
Step 10.) Make sure you have thirty stitches along the top of your chain and pull your working loop from the last stitch on your single crochet stitch. Pull this loop onto your knitting needle.
Step 11.) Turn your work so the backside is facing you and you can see the v’s on the top of the stitching. Place your hook through the second back stitch of your v’s and pull your working strand through it. Pull this loop up onto the needle.
Step 12.) Repeat this for all 30 stitches.
Step 13.) Repeat steps 4 through 12 until your reach your desired length.
Step. 14) Leave yourself a tail of yarn that is twice the width of your scarf and cut. Pull the tail through the loop on your hook.
Step 15.) Thread your darning needle with the tail. Fold your scarf so the ends meet and the side with the visible stitching is facing outward. Stitch the two end braids together with whip stitches.
Step 16.) Tie your two tail ends together. Flip your scarf inside out and thread both tails onto your darning needle. Work the thread into your seam then reverse, then work it through in the opposite direction until it disappears and cut it off.
Congratulations you have a beautiful new scarf!
