Fussy and finicky babies can be hard to deal with. They can affect your mood by making you irritated and annoyed. Moreover, a fussy baby can keep you up all night, preventing you from having a relaxing slumber. How can you raise a baby without any energy?

Fortunately, there’s a very effective way to calm fussy babies. It’s a massage technique called “reflexology.” By massaging a little baby’s tiny feet, you can help soothe and calm them down. It’s an easy way to improve a baby’s mood!

Reflexology is a massage style that focuses on the stimulation of various nerves in the feet. It’s considered very effective amongst infants and babies because their feet are not fully developed yet. This means their bones and skins are more accepting of the massage, so they feel a greater impact.

The photo below shows a general guide for which areas of the feet to focus on. Depending on the problem your baby has, you can massage the corresponding area to soothe them. This can save you so much trouble, so please review this carefully.

Here’s the best way to give your baby a reflexology massage:

  1. Hold your baby’s feet gently – one in each hand. Cup both of the heals at the same time, commonly known as the “Mother Earth Hold.” This helps build connection between a mother and baby.
  2. While holding your baby’s foot, place each of your thumbs right above the center. This is called the “solar plexus” reflex and it’s the orange dot on the guide above. Press down lightly three times and circle your thumbs to calm your baby.
  3. Next, gently stroke from under the big toe and towards the heel. This will calm the baby’s nervous system and bring them to peace mentally.
  4. Then, using your thumbs, make clockwise circles on the middle arch of their foot. This will relieve gas belly aches.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 on the other foot.
  6. Finish the cycle with one final “Mother Earth Hold.”
