How to Go from Pink to Blue
Who doesn’t love blue hydrangea? It’s just so clean looking. And sometimes that pink color can just be tiresome to look at, especially as you’re transitioning from summer to winter. So why don’t you help your hydrangea transition too?
To start, you’ll need to be aware of your soil’s natural pH level. Did you know that the color of hydrangea flowers change based on the pH of your dirt? In this case, it’s most likely that your soil’s pH is simply too high and making your hydrangea turn pink.
Essentially, this means that you’ll want to make your soil more acidic. A cheap and easy way to change your hydrangea to blue is fertilizing the soil with used coffee grounds. Over time, you’ll begin to see your hydrangea gradually turning from pink to blue. However, if this does not work after a few weeks, you might have to get a soil treatment to raise the aluminum in your soil.
How to Go from Blue to Pink
Most people tend to transition from pink to blue, as going this opposite way can be generally more difficult than just tossing coffee grounds into your garden.
Opposite from the previous method, you want to raise the pH of you soil and thus make it more basic. This ends up being more difficult of a task because you can’t simply remove any aluminum from the soil of your garden, so you just have to off-set it. The easiest way is to start using a high phosphorous fertilizer.
Make sure you spread the fertilizer at least 1 to 2 feet around your hydrangea all the way to its very base to ensure that the fertilizer will fully reach its roots. This process will have to be repeated several times to get your hydrangea to turn and stay pink.
