A lot of us love decorating for the holiday season, and it doesn’t stop at just our living rooms. Decorating outside as well is the perfect way to spread cheer to neighbors, visitors, and even package delivery workers.
If you’re looking to get creative with your front porch this year, there are some DIY Christmas projects you don’t want to miss. So, grab your glue gun and a cup of hot cocoa, and let’s get crafting!
No one ever said Christmas decor has to be “cookie-cutter.” Check out the unique ideas below compiled by Hometalk, which will help make your front porch festive!
Giant Santa ornaments
Say “Merry Christmas” to everyone walking by with really neat, oversized Christmas baubles! Interestingly, they’re actually made out of plastic red balls (the kind you commonly see in toy sections).
The person in the video starts out by putting two strips of painter’s tape around one of her balls. Next, she paints the section between the strips black – removing the tape once it’s dry.
She then transforms a tin bucket into an ornament hanger by adding wire to it. After gluing the bucket onto the ball, it looks like a giant Christmas bauble!
But here’s the icing on the cake. The woman creates a square shape out of four popsicle sticks, then glues it to the black section of the ball. Can you tell where this is going? It’s Santa’s belt, of course!
Don’t they look amazing hung on her porch?
Christmas topiary for outside your front door
The following project comes from the crafty blogger at Create & Decorate, Chloe Crabtree. Not only is it simple – but the results are gorgeous too.
After collecting ornaments of various sizes (plastic or shatterproof), Chloe removes the tops.
She then makes the holes in the ornaments larger using a heated hot glue gun (that contains no glue).
In the video, Chloe slides a wooden dowel into the hole of one of her ornaments. Then, she melts another hole into the opposite end of the ball, so the dowel can go all the way through.
By repeating the process using ornaments of graduated sizes, Chloe creates a beautiful topiary! She places foam into one of her front planters to help it stand up, then adds some extra decorations.
Doesn’t her Christmas topiary look just stunning once it’s finished?
Adorable Nutcracker to make visitors smile
The Nutcracker is one of the most lovable characters at Christmas time. Now, you can create your own big version using pots!
The project calls for 4 pots that are the same size, paint, glue, and Nutcracker decorations like cotton, gold trim, and gold buttons. Lastly, a solar stake light to help him glow.
In the video, the woman paints each of the pots a little differently. One is red with a black rim, one is blue with a black rim, one is light pink with a black rim, and the last is all black.
She sketches a Nutcracker face on the light pink pot, then paints it.
Next, she decorates the blue pot with gold buttons to make it look like his classic uniform.
All of the pots are stacked and glued together, and more decorations are added to make him look more like a Nutcracker. Finally, the stake light is placed in the hole on top.
Isn’t this guy just so cute and festive?
