Cereal is the breakfast of champions, and one of the easiest meals to make. We all know you’re supposed to dump it into a bowl, pour some milk over it, and dig in with a spoon.
But, have you ever given much thought about how you’re supposed to close the box of cereal?
Well guess what – we’ve been closing cereal boxes the wrong way for our entire lives!
By the time we reach our 40’s, we’re supposed to know how life works. That’s the age when we can tie our shoelaces in the dark, make a cup of coffee before we’ve even got both eyes open, and tailgate like a pro during rush hour traffic.
However, sometimes our parents how to do things the wrong way. But, how are we even supposed to know how misguided we’ve been, until someone shows us that there’s a better way?
A woman named Becky Holden McGhee, who is a mom of two from Blackpool in the UK, was stunned after she discovered that she had been closing the top of cereal boxes wrong all her life.
In a Facebook post she wrote:
“It’s only taken me 40 years, but I now know the correct way to close a cereal box.”
She accompanied her post with a video that explains, step-by-step, the correct way to close cereal boxes.
It should look something like this.
Knowing just how busy we really are, food manufacturer’s made it easy for us to close the cereal box after we’re done with it. Except they’ve tricked us by putting that fancy little tab at the top.
It turns out that you’re not supposed to tuck it in, which does absolutely nothing anyways when it comes to making the top flaps stay shut.
Instead, you need to turn it into a little tent!
There’s a much better way to keep the cereal from getting all stale and mushy, and Becky has all the insider tips!
With over 4 million views to date, this is definitely life-changing knowledge we all need to pass on to our kids.
Plus, there’s something that’s just soooooo satisfyingly OCD about her method, which even works on super-sized boxes of cereal too!
When contacted by Bored Panda, Becky, who was pretty overwhelmed about the stir her box-folding hack has caused, said:
“It was accidental, I never in a million years thought it would be viewed 3 million times!”
Becky went on to say that she feels “incredibly lucky, all the comments and feedback has been really kind or funny.”
Susan Taylor-Jorisssen is just one of the hundreds who tried Becky’s box-folding trick. She responded with a picture of her first try, saying:
“Ok no judgement on the sugar cereal… life changing!!!!”
Another woman by the name of Rachel Riches tried her hand at Becky’s magic box-closing trick, but she couldn’t quite get the hang of it.
In fact, she even managed to somehow shred her box of Shredded Wheat!
“Hmmmm think I may have buggered it.”
Oh well, there will always be some people out there with dimmer lights than the rest of us.
