The Kraemers found 60 acres of land in Tennessee and are slowly but surely turning it into their dream homestead.

Homesteading is defined as living a lifestyle of self-sufficiency by growing your own food, caring for animals, and home preservation of food.

The Kraemers showed the progress of the first four months of their new life on their growing homestead through their YouTube channel. To date, the video already has more than one million views.

They started preparing their new property on March 1 by laying down gravel to create a driveway where their RV and trailer could pass.

Nate also began cutting trees and clearing the area of weeds. It’s obvious that the property has not been tended to for many years.

At first, Nate cleared the area himself.

However, they decided to have the tractor come in to help and they were able to clear the trees in just a few minutes, instead of hours.

On March 5, they officially moved in.

“We’re very very excited about this. We’ve been waiting a long time for this,” the Kramers said.

Their biggest challenge during moving day was to drive their trailer into the property.

Although the property is 60 acres, the gate and road leading into it was narrow.

They had to lay out two pieces over the dirt road to ensure the truck and trailer could make it inside the property.

The Kraemers also had to clear and cut branches by the road to ensure there was enough space for the truck to pass. They drove slowly inside so the RV wouldn’t hit any branches or trees.

“It wasn’t smooth nor pretty by any means, but we’re here. We made it!” shared Nate and Katie. That day marked the day they officially moved to Tennessee.

The video shows the family’s different adventures moving to their new homestead.

On their first day in their new home, the rain was so hard that Nate had to dig a small trench to lead away from the house. He couldn’t find a shovel so he used a hammer instead.

The family had many repairs to do, including fixing the farmhouse gutters.

They also graded the ground outside the farmhouse so they could start making more improvements, including adding stepping stones leading to the house.

More of their personal belongings arrived in moving pods. Nate showed that he lined the pod with two by four pieces of wood. These were useful pieces of wood he didn’t want to leave behind in Portland, where they used to live.

Nate and Katie also transformed an old carport into a pig pen and bought pigs. They named their pigs Eeny, Meeny, Miny, and Moe.

In less than four months, they had four pigs, nine chickens, and two dogs.

They also bought four sheep to add to their farm animals. Their hens also gave them chicks which would double how many chickens they had on their property.

One exciting day, they found a non-venomous black snack in their chicken coop. Nate and Katie shared that they knew there was a chance this would eventually happen and even removed the snake themselves.

They continued to make improvements to their property, including cutting weeds and grass, and clearing the area near the entrance.

Nate found an old bag of grass seeds from 1980 and decided to try and plant the seeds to see if they would grow. Theye also planted potatoes using different kinds of methods to see which method would give them the most potatoes.

From planting 35 pounds of potatoes, they were able to harvest 137.6 pounds.

Nate and Katie also showed viewers how they are protecting their chicks from predatory birds.

They moved their chicken coop to a place with lots of cover for the chicks to hide in, they place in a scarecrow, put in wind chimes, and also decoy owls.

This interesting video shows how much progress they made in only four months. It’s amazing how much work they did on their huge property all on their own.
