High school sweethearts Jessica Breen and her husband Sinclair Breen are all about DIY custom projects. Sinclair is a builder and Jessica works in education so they are always down to learn and implement new things.
Which is why the couple jumped at the chance to try to recreate something similar on their own after Jessica found a picture of a really neat bookshelf.
“When I showed Sinclair he almost had a heart attack,” Jessica told Daily Mail. “We knew we had to try it.”
So, they did. They measured out their wall space and asked a graphic arts teacher that Jessica knew to come up with dimensions for their project.
“‘He magically came up with the sizes of all the panels that we got cut from a manufacturer,” Jessica explained.
They spent $900 on custom-made panels from Aussie Cut and the parents of two put it all together.
“We started making all the boxes, and Sinclair created a fake MDF wall so we could draw the boxes in the right places,” Jessica said. “Then, we had to fix the wall onto our normal studded wall, and then we screwed the boxes onto the MDF wall.”
The whole thing took about 16 hours to put together but the results were absolutely phenomenal.
“It was a huge process,” said Jessica. “But it was so worth it. All good things take time. You need to make sure you take that time, refrain from rushing and don’t cut corners.”
With time and a good partner, they were able to get the job done.
“Let’s be real – Jess is the brains, Sinclair is the muscle. 100% real and unashamed,” their Facebook page reads.
She says her sons absolutely love to hang out and read near the bookshelf. The shelves along the bottom are all reserved for their books.
They weren’t the only ones who fell in love with it.
Their photos ended up going viral and their bookshelf was admired all around the world. They also had a few laughs with some of the comments on their projects.
“None of the shelves are level so the only thing you can put in it are books,” said one commenter on Bored Panda.
REALLY Capt. Obvious… you don’t say! Apparently, she didn’t get the memo about it being a BOOKSHELF.
And that’s not the only unique piece they have in their home. They also have a really cool glass-enclosed wine case. You can check out all their creations here.
