Eric and Ashley, the dynamic duo behind the popular YouTube channel “Create Your Own Road Show,” have taken the van life community by storm with their impressive mobile home, affectionately named Boxanne.
This unique vehicle, a 2015 GMC Savannah 3500 cutaway, is more than just a van; it’s proof of their commitment to freedom and adventure.
With its distinctive short wheelbase model and a generous 7ft x 7ft x 10ft box dimension plus a 3ft extension above the cab, Boxanne is a perfect blend of utility and comfort.
Eric and Ashley’s journey into van life began in 2020, motivated by a shared desire for freedom and the thrill of adventure.
Both with mobile careers, they seized the opportunity to explore the open road while still being young and able-bodied.
Their first venture was in a Chevy Express low-roof van, which they traveled in for three years.
However, the limitations of space prompted them to upgrade to a box truck, providing more room and ease for their build process.
The transformation of Boxanne was no small feat.
The build process took a little over six months, thanks to access to a fully equipped space in Missouri.
With a budget of $40,000, they purchased the van for $36,000 and spent an additional $20,000 on the build.
The result is a beautifully crafted home on wheels, tailored to meet their every need while on the road.
Inside Boxanne, the couple has created a comfortable and functional living space.
The kitchen boasts an induction cooktop, a full-size sink, a fridge with a freezer, and a composting toilet.
Water storage includes 5 gallons of gray water and 25 gallons of fresh water.
Storage solutions are cleverly designed with upper cabinets featuring spring-loaded hinges, custom lower cabinets, and above-cab storage supported by gas struts.
There’s even dedicated shoe storage under the dinette.
For relaxation and sleep, Boxanne features a U-shaped bench that easily converts into a queen-sized bed.
The interior also includes a dedicated space for their library, ensuring that their love for books is not compromised by their mobile lifestyle.
The control center is efficiently managed from a pony wall, housing controls for lighting, the fan, and the heater, making it easy to maintain a comfortable living environment.
The exterior of Boxanne is equally impressive.
The van is fitted with Arctic Turn wildlands doors and CRL windows, providing both security and ample natural light.
Access to the roof is made easy with torque lift steps and fold-up steps.
Constructed from FRP laminate (fiberglass and plywood), the van is both durable and insulated.
For outdoor activities, a Moonshade provides the perfect spot for relaxing in the shade, and a projector setup allows for movie nights, using the side of the truck as a screen.
Electrical and solar systems are crucial for van life, and Eric and Ashley have ensured Boxanne is well-equipped.
The van features 416 amp-hours of battery power, a 2,000-watt inverter, and Victron components for solar and DC charging.
Three solar panels totaling 600 watts are installed, with the capacity for more if needed.
The 25-gallon underslung water tank with heated lines ensures a steady water supply, even in colder climates.
Reflecting on their van life journey, Eric and Ashley find themselves closer to nature and in a more calming environment.
This lifestyle has offered them unique experiences and a fulfilling sense of freedom.
However, they also acknowledge that transitioning out of van life might be more challenging than starting it.
The journey has fostered greater self-awareness and authenticity, shaping them in ways they never anticipated.
Eric and Ashley’s adventure in Boxanne is not just about travel; it’s a lifestyle that encourages others to pursue their dreams.
