Adrienne and Dave had big dreams when it came to their retirement. They wanted a care-free life without worry and stress – so they decided to downsize.
The couple made a decision to sell their large farm-style home to their son and build a tiny home where they could live simply and happily. The tiny home they crafted is 8-feet wide and 24-feet long, and despite the small amount of square footage, the couple doesn’t mind at all. In fact, they didn’t have many possessions to bring with them as they had previously traveled for their careers and lived out of suitcases.
Inside, you’ll find a traditional tiny home layout with soaring vaulted ceilings.
Upon entering the home, you’ll see the seating and lounge area which flows into the kitchen and the bathroom in the rear. A sleeping loft can be found upstairs. Decor was kept simple and mimics the same farmhouse style that Adrienne had in her previous home.
The sleeping loft is accessed via a white ladder that can be folded up and out of the way.
Adrienne and Dave opted for a ladder to save space in the tiny home, however, later down the road, they may install a permanent staircase for easier accessibility as the couple grows older. But for now, the ladder works perfectly.
The seating area consists of a built-in lounge bench with a bright red cushion.
Looking out their picture frame window, the couple has views of the sprawling countryside and an abandoned barn that sits on the neighboring farm’s property. The large bench is also the perfect place to catch an afternoon cat nap – after all, isn’t retirement meant for relaxing?
The galley-style kitchen is super practical with every modern amenity you could need.
Not only does the kitchen have lots of counter space for food preparation, but there is also an oven with electric range, mini-fridge, and sink with drying rack. There are cabinets underneath and a large armoire to the left for food and dish storage.
The sleeping loft with queen-size bed is cozy and welcoming.
The sleeping loft truly has that cottage feel with white ceilings and beams, with subtle and elegant linens on the beds. There is enough room for a little nightstand with a reading lamp and a long horizontal window that lets in lots of sunshine and can be pushed out for a lovely breeze.
The smart couple had planned ahead and purchased farmland five years ago – which is where their tiny home has settled.
Half of the 8-acre property, along with their previous home, was sold to their son. The other half still belongs to Adrienne and Dave. This was the ideal situation because it allowed them to free up some of their capital for retirement and also be close to their family. What a perfect way to live out your golden years!
For Dave and Adrienne – retirement meant downsizing and living a simpler life.
Some people prefer to live a more lavish lifestyle after retirement, after all, they worked hard and it’s well-deserved. For others, they prefer to let go of material possessions and focus on experiences like traveling and spending time with family. Either way – it’s all about finding your personal meaning of happiness.
