Elisa and Ryk moved to the West Coast when they got married to live the life they want.

While they did have a house to live in on the East Coast (an inheritance from Elisa’s dad), the house was situated in an area that was nice but very manicured and “antiseptic.”

Elisa and Ryk are already mature people, who have done the suburban life. In Ryk’s words, that cul-de-sac life doesn’t excite them anymore.

They don’t want to live that life any longer.

Around that time, Elisa was watching a lot of tiny home videos and had also gotten Ryk hooked on them. It’s a good thing they did because it would become their most workable option when they moved to Oregon.

When they arrived in Oregon in 2015, it was really bad timing because the house prices skyrocketed!

Because of that, they had to look at other housing options. One of these options happened to be building a tiny home.

While an average price of a single-family home cost starts at $300,000, a tiny home can cost around $50,000. The price can go up to around $100,000, but this tiny home is going to be custom-built for your needs.

Elisa and Ryk got married later in life and have their own set ways.

Although they want to live together, they knew they still wanted their own private spaces. They thought of the perfect solution – build two different tiny homes that cater to their personal needs.

At the same time, they still have spaces where they can be together.

It’s the perfect setup, don’t you think?

The two tiny homes are situated side-by-side with an outdoor area and stone pathway in the middle to connect the two houses. Elisa’s home is a 26-ft tiny home called Little Starry Blue and Ryk’s mancave is a 30-ft tiny home called Lassen Creek.

They have outdoor decks connected to both houses, where Elisa and Ryk spend a lot of their time together.

That’s what the couple noticed since going tiny.

They spend a lot of time outside or outdoors. Having a dedicated space for it (that’s still removable) is important to connect the houses as well.

The couple first bought a used tiny home and had the interior renovated, according to Elisa’s needs. It still has all the features of a tiny home. She has a kitchen and living room, a bathroom, a loft bedroom (with a closet), a work area, and a creative space in the loft.

This is the home with the bigger kitchen, which can fit them both at the same time.

Lassen Creek, Ryk’s man cave, is a custom-built tiny home and costs around $110,000. While Little Starry Blue’s interior is very warm and colorful, Lassen Creek’s interior has a lot of black elements.

The kitchen cupboards are black. The kitchen sink is black. Even the furniture has dark colors.

It’s just the way Ryk likes in his space.

Will Elisa and Ryk live like this forever?

Who knows, they said. Things can change in a year. The great part about their tiny home living is that they can just pack up and drive off with their house.

Or they can even sell the houses and go back to living in a single-family home. Who knows?

Do you want to shift to tiny home living?

Elisa shared an important reminder.

When transitioning to a tiny home, you will have to let go of a lot of your things. This is difficult at first but eventually, you’ll see that the things that stay are the things that matter.
