Tiny, compact homes are becoming a favorite for many young homeowners now. They often begin as fun little projects but prove to be worth calling a home.

We’ve got another space-efficient home to look at here.

Meet Richard and Cassie and their stylish tiny home. They built it themselves. They call it “The Duchess”.

You know they put heart and passion into this one if they gave it a name. It was an upgrade from the boring city apartment they used to live in.

“We can be better than this”, said Cassie when they lived in the apartment.

The idea was a home big enough for the couple and their pets, but small enough to stick within their budget.

Besides, they already knew how to make do with a smaller living space. Cassie noted that their old apartment was pretty small on its own, and it still had a lot of vacant space they weren’t using.

It seems like these two are pretty orderly and efficient with using space. That made the idea of a tiny house perfect.

The kitchen and living room share a whole space. There’s a compact – but stylish – set of stairs to take you to the second floor.

Their similarly small bathroom is visible in the back with its cute towel rack, and they have warm lights and even room for a ceiling fan.

You can’t get much simpler than the shape they chose for this home. It’s a rectangle. No additional edges or sections here.

From the outside, the Duchess is a nice, teal color with cedar shake panel on the bottom half.

Inside, the kitchen is the real main attraction of this home. It’s 13 feet long – nearly as long as the home is tall! Something tells me they love to cook.

The wardrobe area has to be extra compact. It boasts just about a 3 foot wide space to hang their clothes in and is divided into “his” and “hers” sections, in Richard’s own words.

And their bathroom? It’s probably one of the coziest ones you’ll ever see. It’s largely thanks to their use of copper and its warm tones. It’s all over the house, and especially all over the bathroom.

Of course, no home tour would be complete without showing off the living room and office space.

Cassie works from home, and it’s important that her workspace reminds her of this.

She works on two monitors perched on a homey wooden desk that seems to be walnut. Next to her office is a cozy bookshelf. They’ve filled up nearly every inch of it owing to their love of reading.

Walnut is also what their dining table is made of. It’s right in front of the window. The pair can relax and watch the local wildlife while they have breakfast.

Their bedroom loft makes you wish you could sleep one night in it yourself.

It’s got a stellar skylight that lets even Richard at 5’11 get enough headspace.

The view from their bedroom is pretty fantastic as well.

In Cassie’s words, it was important that they didn’t feel like they were “sleeping in a coffin”.

A tiny home doesn’t have to feel tiny, but it does need to feel like a home.

And they did a fantastic job at that. Every square inch of this home oozes with homeliness.
