Some newlyweds have to rent a home before they’re able to afford a house. But not Christopher Kaiser and his bride Shauna Thibault. The newlyweds built a brand new house in Phoenix, AZ when they wed.

It just happened to be their former storage shed.

The architect and stylist transformed a 366 square-feet cylindrical silo into an adorable 2-floor tiny home. With some smart planning and design, these two were able to fit everything they needed into their house to make it a happy home.

“There’s something about living a small space that simplifies life,” Christopher said in a video published on Zillow’s website.

Christopher already had the silo when he and Shauna met but they crafted it into a roomless home when they decided to get married. The upstairs which is connected to the downstairs by a spiral staircase is about 60 percent of the downstairs footprint and serves as their bedroom.

Their bedroom houses a large bed with closet and storage space.

“I don’t think I’ve ever slept better in a space,” Shauna said. “There’s got to be some magic to being in a round environment. You kind of feel like you’re always on vacation waking up in a space like that.”

Though there is some closet space, Shauna says she still had to part with some of her belongings.

“I just love learning the space and watching how it changes you,” she explained. “We had to do a pretty serious pair down of our stuff to move in here and that honestly just keeps continuing. You think you can’t minimize anymore but after digging through 20 tank tops you decide 10 is plenty.”

The downstairs houses a fully functioning kitchen including counter and storage space, a sink, stove, and round table to congregate around. It also houses a sitting sofa.

The couple says they were able to comfortably host 12 people for Christmas by taking advantage of their outdoor space and a large door which slides to the side and is basically like sliding wall to the house.

Their home also has tall windows to allow natural light in. They also have an outdoor shower where they can shower under a shade tree.

Christopher says that living in a tiny home, which they affectionately nicknamed “The Pressure Cooker” during their first year of marriage, has helped he and Shauna’s relationship.

“It makes you confront issues more,” he said. “It really brings you together. There’s something about living in a smaller space. It simplifies. It quiets the mind in a way.”

They both recommend tiny and unconventional home living. You can check out a full tour of their home in the video below.
