Nobody wants to waste their used water bottles. If you’ve found yourself with some empty plastic bottles, and you don’t want to send them straight to the landfill, check out these tips for reusing and repurposing them.
1. Make a homemade sprinkler.
When the summer gets really hot, why waste your time and money driving to the store to get a water sprinkler. Instead, cut a few holes in your bottle and attach it over a hose. Voila, you have an excellent sprinkler for your kids to run around in.
2. Organize your yarn.
If you love to knit, you know the struggle of trying to knit something while also keeping your yarn organized and not knotting up. With a plastic bottle, you can cut it in half in order to fit the yarn in, reassemble it, and then pull out the yarn through the top hole. It’ll make the knitting experience much neater.
3. An on-the-go drying rack.
This one is perfect for if you have a big gallon-sized water bottle. All you need to do is cut some slits in the side of it, and a little circle on top, just enough to fit some dishes and cutlery.
4. Create a storage space for your umbrella.
So often people leave their umbrella lying on the floor and lose track of them. But if you also have a shoestring lying around, you can create a hanging hook for your umbrella in between uses.
5. A paint palette.
Cut off the bottom of your water bottle, so that you can easily access the curvy part. Then, you can put different paints in each hollowed out part and easily mix paints with little mess!
6. It can help you pour water more easily.
If you ever need a quick way to wash your hands while you’re camping, or if you want to make it easier to rinse something, cut a small hole at the bottom of a big water bottle. The water will only flow out of the hole when the cap is unscrewed, so you have control over how much water you are letting out.
7. Easily separate your eggs.
No modifications needed for this one! When you crack eggs into a bowl, simply place an unscrewed bottle opening right over eggs yolks. The pressure will suck the yolk right up the bottle, leaving the egg whites behind.
8. A finger shield for chopping food.
If you worry about a sharp knife slicing your fingers, you need to cut a piece of your water bottle out! If you thread a rubber band through two holes in the plastic, you can create an area to hold your fingers and keep them protected from your knife.
9. Have a homemade juicer.
You could spend upward of $2,000 on a juicer. Or, you could cut up two old plastic bottles, layer them over the glass you want to drink out of, and squeeze out your favorite fruit’s juice right on those plastic bottles. They’ll catch all the juice and make sure that you get a cost-effective fresh juice.
10. New sandals!
If you’re looking for some funky, water resistant new style, all you have to do is flatten two plastic bottles, and slip your feet through the labels. You can walk all day with those!
11. Protect your food.
If you want to keep your food hot, or keep any potential bugs away, simply cut off the top of a nearby plastic bottle. It will cover your bowl of food entirely and make sure that nothing damages it.
12. Create a unique candlestick.
Say you want to carry your candles somewhere, or you just want a different look with them, all you have to do is cut up two different plastic bottles. By gluing the caps together, you now have one area to hold the candle, and another to serve as your base where it is safe to carry the candle without fear of burning or dripping wax.
