Think of your favorite celebrities like Johnny Depp, JLo, Rihanna, or Eva Mendes, and try to remember some of their most iconic looks. Have you noticed what they have in common already?
Right! It’s the bandana. Over the years, almost all of the Hollywood stars- and not only- have rocked outfits that were matched with cute bandanas to make them look even more special.
And, although today it’s super cool to wear a bandana in many different ways, some people seem to be looking for ways to upcycle their old bandanas and turn them into something unique. Like a bandana bag.

A few months ago, a TikTok user uploaded a video in which she showed the community how to make a bandana bag that will leave everyone asking “where you got it from”.
User @conceptsbynikki has been regularly uploading videos in which she makes bags out of everyday materials. So, last year, she figured, why not make one out of a bandana?
And it was a huge success.
In the video, we can see the woman take a bandana, turn it around so that she gets a diamond, and cut it in three.
Then, using a sewing pattern, she cuts out two pieces with the shape of the bag.
Then, she goes back to the original middle piece she cut at the beginning, and cuts out the ends in such a way that it will help the bag close when it’s done.
Using a sewing machine, she sews these three pieces together, making sure that she adds a layer of fabric on the inside to make the bag more sturdy.
The woman then adds a zip, and, finally, she also adds a handle, which she ties around two rings.
The end result is beautiful and the TikTok community loved it. With almost 2 million likes, there’s no doubt this bag is a must if you’re a DIY accessory fan.
This is an amazing idea and it seems that bags made of bandanas are here to stay. However, if you’re more of a tote bag kind of person, then you may also like a project by DIY expert and stay-at-home-mum, Jessica.
Jessica has made a beginner step-by-step sewing project, showing us how to make a tote bag using a bandana.
Using only a handful of materials and basic tools like a sewing machine, a ruler, and a pair of fabric scissors, the woman makes a bag with the help of her little daughter.
It’s definitely worth taking a look and trying that out, too.
Whatever you choose, one thing is for sure, you’ll be drawing the attention with your custom-made bag next time you go out.
