Once an old, disused barn – local craftsmen in Wales completely transformed it into a one-of-a-kind vacation retreat in the Welsh countryside.
The cottage, located on a farm’s expansive property, has been named Nant, which means “brook” or “spring” in Welsh. It is a nod to the small brook that runs past the beautiful two-bedroom vacation rental. The barn was renovated using as much natural and local material as possible. The eye-catching granite stonework was done by two talented brothers in the area.

The open floor plan provides a great room which contains the living room, dining area, and kitchen. With the doors open, the patio with table and chairs adds even more square footage of living space. For extra privacy, handmade curtains can be drawn when the doors are closed.

“The underfloor heating provides more than enough heat but we’ve also installed a cast iron log burner to help create that romantic atmosphere,” the listing at Dioni says.
Tall, vaulted ceilings make the cottage feel airy, inviting, and spacious.
From this angle, you get a view of the sofa, dining area, and kitchenette. There is also a centrally focused staircase that leads up to a large sleeping loft. The kitchenette features white cabinets and black countertops. It includes a combination oven, hob, and dishwasher – what more could you ask for in a vacation rental?

“We’ve tried to buy the best fixtures and fittings possible. Including handmade brass lamps and oak furniture,” Dioni says on their website. Decor was kept to a minimum in the simple and elegant space. There is simply a nightstand with lamp and a dresser with a candle and floral arrangement. A clutter-free room is perfect for a great night’s rest.
The slate tile flooring turns to a light wood upstairs in the sleeping loft.
The ‘grog loft’ or sleeping loft is located up in the eves of the barn and boasts a queen-size bed. Thanks to those soaring ceilings, there is plenty of headroom to walk around and climb into bed comfortably. There is also a skylight that lets in rays of sunshine and provides the perfect view for stargazing before bed.
The bathroom is simple and sleek.
The bathroom features white tiled walls, a white ceramic sink, and simple silver hardware. There is a small glass shelf that sits under the minimalistic mirror to store toiletries. There is a renovated cast-iron radiator (not pictured) to keep guests warm when they get out of the glass standup shower.
While you’re staying in the cottage, why not learn a little something about farm life?
“There are lots of advantages to staying on the farm….. It’ll give you a chance to get involved in things like feeding the pigs, collecting the chicken eggs and meeting the ducks. Throwing a stick for our border collie, Dell seems to be the favorite pastime of a lot of our guest,” the Dioni website says.
And if it’s views you’re looking for – there is certainly no shortage.
“Great views in every direction. Views over the Cambrian Coastline and its sandy beaches a mile to the west, Snowdon [a mountain] and her friends are to the north and you are naturally encouraged to explore the rugged Rhinnog Mountains that climb up behind the cottage to the east,” the listing continues.
