Summer is finally here, and with it comes hot weather and sunny days. While this is great for daytime activities, it can be very uncomfortable for those of us staying at home. Staying cool is a difficult task, and air conditioning is a luxury that not many of us can afford to have. Fortunately, there’s a simple, pocket-friendly alternative that will keep you cool without breaking the bank.
Using a 5-gallon bucket, you can create a non-compressor based air conditioner that can cool your room up to 6 hours! Here are the things you’ll need:
Materials:
- 1 pc. 5 gallon bucket
- 1 Foam 5 gallon bucket liner
- 1 5V USB powered fan
- 1 pc. 2 in. PVC pipe, cut 2.5” long
- 25 pcs large plastic Popsicle sleeves
- 1 gallon jug
You will also need the following tools:
- 1 cordless drill
- 1 knife
- 1 hacksaw/PVC cutters
- 1 s 3/8” hole saw
Begin by drilling holes into the bucket. Be sure to keep at least a 2” distance from the bottom of the hole to the bottom of the bucket.
Next, insert the foam bucket liner inside the 5 gallon bucket and create a hole through the existing hole. Once through, insert the PVC pipes into every hole.
Depending on the design and shape of the fan, mount the fan onto the top of the lid of the 5 gallon bucket and the liner’s lid. Then, secure the fan.
Prepare the Popsicle sleeves and place them inside the bucket. You can now plug your fan to enjoy cool air.
Voila! It’s time to bask in the glory of your creation.
