Charcoal is making its way out of the barbecue pit and into the latest beauty products, all for a really good reason.

Recently, activated charcoal made its debut on the beauty scene, proving to be effective in treating oily and acne-prone skin by removing excess dirt and oil that cause breakouts.

What makes activated charcoal different than your regular backyard charcoal is that it’s heated by gas, causing the elements to expand and become more porous. Working like a sponge, the millions of pores in the activated charcoal chemically bind and trap toxins, helping to detoxify the skin and draw out impurities.

In addition, with its natural purifying function, you won’t be adding any harsh chemicals to your skin.

Using only 3 ingredients, you can easily make your own DIY Charcoal Face Scrub at home by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Start with ¼ Cup of White Sugar

The consistency of the sugar helps to exfoliate dead skin cells and reveal a clearer, brighter complexion.

Step 2: Pour in 2 Tablespoons of Avocado Oil

Avocado Oil applied to skin can be used as a moisturizer to provide hydration and prevent skin from drying out.

Step 3: Add in 3 Activated Charcoal Tablets

Always make sure to first apply the solution to a small patch of skin for allergy testing purposes.

After the scrub is applied, wash it off with lukewarm water and enjoy your freshly cleansed skin. This DIY scrub can be applied to both your face and body, if you are experiencing breakouts elsewhere. I have recently incorporated activated charcoal into my personal beauty regimen, and I can definitely see the difference it’s made on my skin.
