Marble pattern is currently a huge trend, but not everyone can afford to put real marble on tabletops. This tutorial will teach you how to turn a regular coffee table, or any table, into a stylish marble-top table at less than half the cost of what you would pay to get real marble. This is also a great way to transform any old, ragged table into a new, modern one. Continue reading to find out how!
What You Need
- a coffee table
- paint primer
- white paint (or color of choice)
- paint bush
- marble contact paper
- angled aluminum plates
- strong adhesive
Getting Started
If you are using an old coffee table and there are loose pieces, fix them or glue them back for the best end results. Wipe down the table with a wet wipe to make sure it is dust and dirt free.
First, prime and paint the entire table everywhere except the top surface. You may need to add two coats of paint.
Next, apply the marble contact paper to the top of the table. Use a credit card to get rid of air bubbles. You apply the contact paper very slowly to make sure there are no bumps or air bubbles. Cut off any excess paper on the side with an exact-o knife or box cutter for precision.
Measure the sides of the table, and cut the aluminum plates down to size. Apply a strong adhesive to the edges of the table, and press the plates into the adhesive. Wipe away any adhesive before it dries. An alcohol based wipe/cleaner would work best.
The contact paper may not be wide enough to cover the entire table, so there my be a seam in the middle. If this bothers you, you can glue an aluminum plate to the middle of the table.
Decorate it with accessories that add to its elegance. Enjoy your new coffee table!
