It seems like this year, more than ever, people are counting down the days to the holiday season. After all, who couldn’t use some good cheer right now!

So what better way to kick off the holidays than with festive Christmas decor. To top it off – why not create it yourself at home, for only a fraction of the price.

Hometalk released a video full of DIY Christmas decoration projects that use dollar store items. That’s right, you can transform your home into a winter wonderland with supplies that are just a buck.

Once you see how cute and clever these decorations are – you’re gonna want to whip up a pot of hot chocolate and get crafting!

Create Your Own Wintry Characters

Nothing says Christmas like fun characters from the North Pole. The following project (from Chas’ Crazy Creations) shows you how to make your own out of dollar store baking pans.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 cookie sheet
  • 1 pizza pan
  • 2 cake or pie pans (different sizes)
  • spray paint (black and white)
  • hot glue gun
  • decoration items like buttons, googly eyes, felt, foam sheets, and snowflake embellishments
  • 1 long wooden board
  • 2 snow hats
  • 1 scarf

Step 1: Begin by spraypainting the cookie sheet black. Then, paint the rest of the baking pans white.

Step 2: The rectangle cookie sheet is going to become a penguin. Cut out feet, a beak, and a belly from the foam sheets and felt. Glue them onto the cookie sheet, along with the googly eyes, bringing him to life! Top it off with a snow hat.

Step 3: The three white pans are going to become Frosty the Snowman. Place them all down on a table from smallest to largest. Decorate Frosty’s body with buttons, and glue on a face.

Step 4: Glue the snowman pieces onto the board so he’ll be able to stand up. Add a hat and wrap a scarf around his neck. You can decorate his hat too with a snowflake embellishment.

Customize your own glittery snowglobes.

There’s something magical about shaking a Christmas snowglobe and peering inside. Oh So Lovely demonstrated how to make a DIY version using Dollar Store items.

Here’s what you’ll need to make one:

  • jar with lid
  • a small figurine that will fit inside
  • hot glue gun
  • water
  • glitter
  • glycerin

Step 1: Hot glue your figurine to the inside of the lid.

Step 2: Fill your jar with water, add some glitter, then a few squirts of glycerin. Lastly, twist the lid on tightly.

A Two-Tier Serving Stand For All Your Sweet Treats

Even if your home won’t be as full of guests this year – doesn’t mean you can’t still put out yummy goodies. The project below will give you a festive way to display them.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 clear glass plates
  • holiday tissue paper
  • paintbrush
  • Mod Podge
  • E6000 glue
  • 2 glass taper candle holders

Step 1: Cover the back of one of the plates with a layer of Mod Podge, using a paintbrush.

Step 2: Lay tissue paper onto the back of the plate, then cut off the excess paper.

Step 3: Paint another layer of Mod Podge over the tissue paper. Repeat this process with the other plate.

Step 4: Put a ring of glue around the top of a glass candle holder. Place one of the plates on top, making sure it’s centered.

Step 5: Turn the other candle holder upside down, then glue it to the top of the plate. Check out the photo below… See where it’s going?

Step 6: Finally, glue the second plate on top of the second candle holder. Now you have a two-tier serving stand!

Transform Pool Noodles Into Jumbo Candy Canes

It’s always fun to add Christmas joy to your front yard with decorations. The following one, which is also from Chas’ Crazy Creations, might have your neighbors asking, “Where’d you get those?”

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • red pool noodles
  • athletic tape
  • fishing line
  • yard stakes

Step 1: Wrap the athletic tape around the pool noodles to give them that classic candy cane striped appearance.

Step 2: Curve the tops of the noodles into candy cane shapes, using the fishing wire to hold them in place.

Step 3: Pound stakes into your yard wherever you’d like to set up your candy canes (like lining a driveway or walkway). Then, slide the candy canes onto the stakes.
