There are few places in the world that really make you feel like you’re living in a fairytale.
But this lucky family gets to live in this fairytale every day!
Escaping the city life and residing in the forests of Washington State.
During the pandemic, Jacob, Liz, and their 4 kids decided to escape the city living in Portland, Oregon to the forest-surrounded cottage in Olalla, Washington.
Like many, they were pondering the many dreams they had for their life.
Jacob turned to the internet and started looking at unique homes for sale.
When he came across this Snow White-looking cottage, he sent the link to his wife, Liz, more as a joke asking if she’d move there.
Little did they know, they would!
In a video tour by Tiny House Giant Journey, we get to see this magical cottage that Jacob, Liz, and their family not only live in, but also share by renting out so that others can experience what it has to offer as well.
The history of this Washington Fairytale Cottage.
In 1960, before there was even a home there was just a beautiful piece of forest-filled land.
It took the original owner about 2 decades to create the magical oasis we know now as this cottage.
The cottage was built using a traditional wood frame (all wood used on the home was sourced from the property), and then covered in concrete to give it the natural look that it has.
The roof is is a style that is called an Oscillation Sea Wave roof which is what gives this cottage its whimsical vibe.
Take a look inside the Olalla Forest Retreat.
Using stone and wood from the property, this home really feels like you’re living on the land.
Once you move past the entryway you can find yourself in the kitchen where there’s plenty of cabinetry, open shelving, and of course a view of the forest.
Next up is the master bedroom, which was originally the garage!
But this family’s imagination created the coziest space.
In the living room, there are no electronics but you can find plenty of seating with many books to look through and enjoy.
The kid’s rooms are a dream!
You can see there are bunk beds built into the wall for the younger ones, and their teenager is set up with a spacious room that can turn into a hang-out area.
With its size and its beauty, it was too unique not to share.
Although Jacob and Liz had a family of 6, there was still plenty of space to share!
As they love to be hosts, they decided to turn the big master suite into an AirBnb.
This AirBnb includes a queen size bed, a couch, and air mattresses allowing 4 guests to stay.
But, the main feature of the suite is the grand stone fireplace!
The family also purchased a large tent and created a glamping space for an AirBnb in the yard.
As if the house wasn’t enough, there’s also a great patio.
If you ever run out of things to do, there is a 3,000 sq ft patio in the rear of the house as well.
On the patio, there’s a hot tub, an outdoor kitchen, and a fire pit to enjoy with friends and family.
