We all watch HGTV with visions of our dream homes dancing through our heads. But can you imagine what the homes of HGTV’s stars look like?
They spend all their time making other people’s houses look amazing so you have to figure that their own houses are even more phenomenal.
Well, that’s true for Chip and Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper.
After moving in and out of different homes, the couple decided to settle down on 40 acres of land in Crawford, Texas and make a 1,700 square-foot Victorian farmhouse their home.
It, of course, was a fixer upper.
“We bought the farmhouse in 2012 and spent a year and a half carefully piecing it back together,” Joanna writes on her blog At Home. “The oak trees that surround the property are what drew us to the place.”
The home originally had only two bedrooms and an unfinished attic, which was too small for their family of six.
So, they added a master bathroom and reconfigured some of the walls in rest of the home to make it work.
“My main priority was to open up the main living, dining, and kitchen area,” Joanna explains. “We also finished out the upstairs and created a nice size family room, a guest bedroom and craft room.”
The house has a warm country and rustic feel… let’s take a tour and you’ll see what we mean.
What says “country home” more than rocking chairs?
This is what their gorgeous front entry way looks like. If this tiny space looks this beautiful and thoughtfully put together, you can just imagine what the rest looks like!
This soft neutral and white color pallet is repeated throughout the house to give it a calming effect.
This is the open floor plan of all of our kitchen, living, and dining room dreams!
The entire first floor of the home is opened up.
Their kitchen really couldn’t be any cuter, or brighter with all that beautiful natural light pouring in.
Knocking down walls helps brings unity to your space and those who live within it.
It evens helps you stay close to your guests when you entertain.
“Since we added on our master bedroom, I used the flooring in the attic for my floors and I also incorporated old doors so the space felt like the rest of the house,” Joanna says. “I had the best time looking for older fixtures and doors to use and we salvaged all the existing trim and molding to preserve the timeless look of this home.”
One of our favorite spaces is the coffee bar which mimics a cozy coffee shop and serves as a place for her children to study.
Still, what’s even grander about this home is the bedrooms.
The master bedroom is clean, pristine, and absolutely flawless.
The girls’ bedrooms follow the same theme and are fit for a pair of princesses.
The boys’ bedroom is just really cool and fun!
Basically, their home is just as breathtaking as you’d expect it to be. You can check out more glimpses of the Gaines’ home on Joanna’s blog or her Instagram page.
