Stuck Zipper

To fix a stuck zipper, first, make sure there isn’t any fabric that’s stuck in it. If there isn’t any, you’ll want to rub a pencil on the teeth that are closest to the zipper. The graphite will lubricate your zipper and help it to slide again. You can also rub it with a cotton swab dipped in petroleum jelly or olive oil. Jiggle the zipper a little bit to help the lubricant work through the teeth.

Zipper Pull Broke Off

Repairing a new zipper pull is an easy fix. You can use a paperclip, keyring, ribbon loop, or a telephone wire connector as a zipper pull by sliding it through the tab on the slider. If you want something a little bit nicer, you can buy a replacement at the craft store.

Zipper that Won’t Stay Up

Sometimes older zippers will lose their ability to stay up. If you don’t want to give everyone a show, you’ll want to remedy this right away. The best way to keep it up is to slide a key ring through your zipper pull, then place your key ring over your button. You can also try this with a rubber band.

This, however, is only a temporary solution. The only permanent solution for this problem is to replace the entire zipper.

Separated Zipper, Teeth Won’t Close or Pop-Open

First, make sure nothing is stuck in your zipper. If that’s not the problem, try rubbing a pencil or bar of soap on the teeth to smooth them out so your zipper will slide easier.

After that look at each of the individual teeth. If you find some that are sticking out, you can use pliers to move them back into place. And if that fails, your problem may be with the slider. You can use the pliers to try and close it tighter together so it starts catching the teeth again.

Slider Broke Off

If that last trick hasn’t worked or your slider has come off completely. You’ll have to replace it with a kit you buy at a craft store. They are very inexpensive and it’s super easy to do. You can clip off the old slider with some pliers or a wire cutter and slide on the new zipper.
