Edwards and Ahrens are the two minds behind the popular Austin Flipsters Youtube channel.
You may have heard their names before, and their hit YouTube Channel as well.
They take their audience along for the journey as they renovate homes in Austin, Texas, and watch them buy old and worn-out houses and transform them into amazing homes.
A Special Project for Joey
Two years ago, the duo uploaded a very special video of them buying a home and renovating it for someone close to them.
They found a house that has 3 beds, two baths, and 1,085 sq. feet. and it was built in 1987.
As Edwards and Ahrens were filming the house, they were discussing what to do with it, and if Joey would want the house.
Joseph Simonetti, Austin Flipster’s videographer and editor, a.k.a Joey, was surprised.
He verified if they were talking about him, and the two explained to him that the house was within his price point and that if he loves it, they would flip the house entirely for free.
“Yes!” exclaimed the very excited videographer.
The $18,000 Old House
Their first impression of the house was that it was an old house with a very playful color palette.
It had a yellow door, teal siding, a very large chimney, track lighting, a popcorn ceiling, and those very cheap vinyl floorings on the bathrooms.
The kitchen space was workable, and the cabinets were in good condition.
They even found a cigar pipe collection.
Upstairs, you’ll find one small bedroom, one medium size, and one large master bedroom.
Outside, they decided to redo the whole siding.
The Renovation
The designers replaced the popcorn ceiling, accentuated some parts of the home with design, and they chose a color palette fit for a bachelor like Joey.
They went for a bright white for the ceiling, creamy white for the walls, gray for the kitchen accent that they were planning, and of course, black for the accent ceiling.
However, since Joey posted an update on his Instagram account about the color elements, many people said “no” to the black ceiling.
Joey backed out of that design plan.
The videographer consented to having one room with a black ceiling just before they completed the deadline.
The team revamped the look by changing out the floorboards and the ceiling.
They also opened the kitchen window so it would give you a bigger room.
They gave it a more sophisticated look by adding modern-looking furniture and painting part of the fireplace black.
They also added some home accents that are connected to Joey’s profession.
Let’s not forget what they have done with the upstairs bathroom.
It’s so spacious looking now and the accents are amazing.
Of course, the backyard is also very important.
They created a deck where Joey could relax, and they painted the chimney crown was painted.
According to Edwards and Ahrens, if you can’t hide something, accentuate it.
Other Surprises
Joey said that all the furniture was beautiful, and he loved it!
That’s when they all said that it was actually his sister who bought all the backyard furniture as a surprise.
Then, all the Austin Flipster gang came by and even bought him a big TV and sound bar.
Curious about the cost?
Its all-in investment of Joey was $355K, which included a remodel cost of $61K.
However, he only had to put down 5% or $18K to close down the deal.
