Most of us think that water spots and heat stains are the death of our furniture… but think again.

Your furniture may be salvageable if you know the right methods to get rid of those unsightly marks.

You can save yourself hundreds of dollars by putting in the work to make your furniture look like new.

Here are the best ways to remove heat stains and water spots:

Heat Stains

Iron and a Towel

Place a towel over your heat spot and run an iron over it using the steam function. The steam should lift the stain and remove it from your wood furniture. Just make sure to whisk away any moisture left behind on your surface from the steam.

Ash and Lemon Juice

Mix some cigarette ash and lemon juice until it becomes a paste-like consistency. Rub the paste onto your polyurethane finishes with 0000 steel wool. The citric acid in the juice will remove your heat stain and the ash and steel wool will help buff it away.

Toothpaste and Baking Soda

Make a paste from non-gel toothpaste and baking soda and rub it onto your lacquer finish furniture that is stained. Wipe off the excess paste with a cloth. You may have to repeat this process a few times.

Oxalic Acid

Mix together some oxalic acid crystals with water and dab it onto the stain of your wooden furniture with a cotton swab. Let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes and wipe it off. You may have to add more of the solution if there is still a stain. When it’s gone, you’ll want to dab 1 teaspoon of baking soda mixed with 1/2 cup of water and dab the stain to neutralize it.

2-Part Bleach

Mix your 2-part bleach together in a tiny container and quickly dab the mixture onto your stain. After it dries, dab the stain with white vinegar. Once that dries, dab it with water to neutralize it. This is bleach so you’ll want to be careful to only rub it on your stain.

Vaseline

This works the same way that the mayonnaise method works. Just spread some on and let it sit overnight, then wipe off in the morning.
