This turned out to be more beautiful than I had imagined.

With how many Christmases most of us have lived through, we might start itching to try new things with each Christmas.

A new recipe, a change of genre for the Christmas music, or a spin on the Christmas tree.

And though you may have seen unique Christmas treeas before, have you seen this one made from broken glass?

Broken glass may be the last thing you’d think to make a Christmas tree out of.

Who would want a tree that could nick your fingers or your forearm? Sounds like a ridiculous idea, but one man is crazy enough to try it.

He might find a way to make it a lot less dangerous too.

His name is Terry Bronk, and he has his own little workshop full of nuts, bolts, power tools, and custom tools he’s made himself.

Terry’s Christmas tree is certainly a little risky to make, but what is reward without risk, right?

He begins his project by carefully striking a glass pane laid over a towel. He can’t hit it too hard or else the pieces might fly in his face. Terry has to hit it hard enough to break, but not too hard that the force would scatter the pieces around.

For this, he does gentle, repeated strikes almost like he’s tapping it.

That eventually did the job. He can’t do anything with all those glass shards lying on the towel. Into a bucket they go.

You may be asking how he plans to form all those shards into a tree-design. Well, check out this tool he has.

Looking very much like a crude, dangerous laundry dryer, Terry has a device that spins a bucket around rapidly.

The motion will make the glass shards break apart into finer sizes.

After that little spin in Terry’s special tool, he can start getting to work now.

A framed glass pane will play the role of his canvas.

He brings out the glue and some marbles.

Now the magic happens. Terry draws out the pattern onto the glass with the glue and starts placing marbles to act as ornaments.

Then he takes the itty bitty shards of glass and scatters them in deliberate patterns to form the tree shape.

With the momentum going, terry adds more shards and draws snowflakes with a special mixture he made.

The design’s coming together now.

There’s a message in there about something broken allowing Terry to make something so beautiful.

He finishes it off with a star-topper, and after the glue dries, it’s ready to be hung.

Terry and his wife find a perfect spot on their front window.

Terry hung the little project he was so proud of, and anyone walking by might be able to appreciate the craftsmanship he put into it.

The minimalism of the tree is also a great reminder that Christmas doesn’t always have to be extravagant.
