As the world’s citizens become more and more conscious of the repercussions of single-use plastics, the use of plastic water bottles has dropped.
That doesn’t mean, however, that there aren’t still many of them in circulation.
There are ways, though, to reuse these water bottles instead of adding them to landfills.
There are hundreds of tips and tricks that can help you clean, organize, or repurpose the bottles into something that won’t negatively impact the environment at all.
Many of these tips need only a few simple items you probably already have on hand; water bottles, a sharp knife, a drill, a glue gun, and a hair dryer.
Create a door handle protection by filling a bottle cap with glue, letting it harden, then attaching it to the wall where the door handle has previously left a dent.
Have you experienced earphones or USB cords that get bent and then you can see the wires?
Heat the rim of a bottle cap with a hairdryer and then roll the exposed wire in the melted plastic.
This will cover the dangerous wires in a strong plastic coating that helps increase the lifespan of your cables.
Use a large rectangular water bottle as a food scrap bin when cooking by cutting it in a certain way.
Cut into 3 sides of the bottle near the top and then insert a compost bag into the bottle.
Next, open your cupboard or drawer and put the cut side with the bottle top on the inside.
When you close the door, the top of the bottle will get caught on the inside and will stay in place so you can quickly and easily clear your scraps into that.
Do the legs of your chairs leave scratches on your floors?
Cut the water bottle in half and place the chair legs in the bottom of the bottle, use a hair dryer to melt the plastic so it takes the shape of the chair legs.
The plastic will protect your floors from any more scratches.
Have a hose or pipe with a split in it?
Wrap the plastic around the split area and melt it into place, this creates a water-tight seal that will stop leaks.
Some large water bottles have little plastic handles around the top that makes it easier for carrying, those are useful too.
Take it off the bottle and attach it to the wall of your garage or shed and you now have a perfect place to hang your hammer.
Anybody who has moved before knows how heavy some furniture can be.
There is an easy yet ingenious way to help with that process.
Remove all the air from a large water bottle, drill a hole into the cap, then attach a pump nozzle.
You can now slide the collapsed bottle under the piece of furniture and attach a pump to the nozzle, as you reinflate the bottle, it will lift the furniture so you can get a better grip.
