Singer-songwriter Holly Williams, the daughter of Hank Williams Jr., loves taking on home renovations. Although she already has her hands full with a couple of projects, when she laid eyes on an old farmhouse, she just couldn’t resist.

Holly stumbled upon an 1800’s farmhouse on Craiglist just outside of Nashville and was overwhelmed by inspiration. It was going to need a lot of TLC, but she bought it on the spot.

Holly had big plans for a major overhaul and makeover of the historic home. She says that as a songwriter, she’s inspired by old homes because of all the stories that they contain. Having been built in the 1800’s, the walls have seen many moments of happiness, joy, tragedy, and heartache. Holly wanted to draw inspiration from that, but also preserve the history of the home.

The before and after pictures of her renovation will have you scouring Craigslist for your own little piece of farmhouse history.

Keep scrolling to see the magic that Holly worked on the beautiful property.

The Exterior

Before: The exterior of the home needed a bit of TLC. Although there is a wonderful large front porch on both stories, the siding was dirty, and the landscaping needed some serious work.

The Entryway

Before: The entryway was dark, unwelcoming, and a bit scary when Holly first purchased the home. It certainly didn’t provide the warm welcome you’d want from a country retreat.

After: Holly completed transformed the entryway into a whimsical and warm scene from a storybook. A fresh coat of white paint and floral walls give the area an open and light farmhouse feel.

The Living Room

Before: Holly really wanted the living space to be the center of family gatherings. A cozy spot for everyone to gather and feel reconnected. The room didn’t offer any of those things whatsoever.

After: Holly chose white walls with neutral colored furnishings to make the space feel bigger than it really is. She adores patterns and colors, so to add a pop of creativity in the room, she used bright curtains and a graphic rug.

The Kitchen

Before: The kitchen was outdated and bland when Holly first purchased the home. It lacked seating space and needed new cabinets.

The Dining Room

Before: Although the fireplace was extremely unique, the rest of the room was drab with a dated mint color on the walls.

After: Holly kept the white walls flowing throughout the dining room and kitchen. The antique and rustic decor makes it feel like something straight from a painting.

The Master Bedroom

Before: Gray, boring carpet was in the master bedroom. The walls and ceiling were in good shape; they just needed a fresh coat of paint.

After: Underneath the carpet, Holly revealed pine floors that she painted with a bright blue paint. She kept the rest of the room simple with white paint and white decor. She used the curtains to fit in a pop of bright color that matches the floor.

The Guest Bedroom

Before: “There was an awkwardly placed dividing wall, as well as old, smelly carpet and dated green and white paint,” Holly said.

After: Holly knocked down the dividing wall and opened up the small space. Contrary to what most people would think to do, she painted the ceiling and walls a dark gray and kept the floor a stark white. Holly said that the darker colored ceiling made the white bedding really stand out.

The Seating Area

Before: A corner in the bedroom had a drab looking fireplace that was in need of a serious upgrade.

After: Knocking down the wall, Holly created a warm and cozy seating area. Although the fireplace doesn’t work yet, the leather chair and inviting decor, and bar cart is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a nightcap before bed.
