When we think of olive oil we immediately think of delicious Italian pasta and fresh salads. It turns out however that olive oil doesn’t only belong in the kitchen. In fact, it has so many uses in and around your home.
Here are some incredible home remedies with olive oil.
Constipated? Simply add olive oil.
Aside from being a useful culinary oil, olive oil can also be an effective way to help relieve constipation. Olive oil is an oil and is, therefore, effective at helping to lubricate your digestive system.
The remedy works best on an empty stomach:
Mix a squeeze of lemon juice with 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil, and things should be running smoothly again quite soon.
Hair treatment or conditioner.
Hair feeling a bit dry and frizzy? Olive oil is the perfect do-it-yourself home hair treatment. Gently heat 1/2 a cup of olive oil, take care not to boil it, though. Then apply the warm olive oil to your hair-warning do this in the bathtub or shower as it can get messy.
Lastly, cover your hair with plastic wrap and then wrap in a towel. Relax and let the treatment soak in. After 45 minutes shampoo your hair and rinse.
Make your own chemical free wooden furniture polish.
Instead of buying furniture polish make your own! Simply mix 2 parts olive oil with 1 part lemon juice or white wine vinegar. Give the mixture a shake and your very own homemade furniture polish is ready to go.
For easy application, store the mixture in a clean, reusable spray bottle. Before each application, shake the mixture and spray it on the wooden furniture needing the polish. Leave for a minute or two and wipe off with a paper towel or clean cloth.
Forgot to buy shaving cream?
This should never be a problem again as olive oil can easily take the place of your favorite shaving cream. The oil will help the razor blade glide naturally over your skin, so no worries about any skin irritation.
Winter lips no more.
If you are anything like me you keep losing your chap stick, especially when you most need it in winter! This is not a problem if you have olive oil in the house. For a quick, easy and moisturizing lip scrub simply combine the following:
Coarse sugar, 1 tsp. of olive oil and a splash of lemon juice for flavor (optional).
Rub over the lips to exfoliate and moisturize those chapped lips. Oh and the best thing? If you want to you can make up a big batch of this scrub to use all over your body.
