An accent wall adds a flair to the room
Four walls of the same color can feel a little flat. And if you have four white walls, that’s just boring. When you paint one wall a different color, a color that’s in contrast with the rest of the walls, you bring a different mood to the room.
But remember not to add too many things on that accent wall, no big draperies or curtains, no excessive decorations, and no big furniture. On the other hand, don’t leave it too bare either. It’s an accent wall, not a museum piece.

Accent walls make a room longer or wider.
It doesn’t matter if you have a light room with a dark accent wall or a dark room with a light accent wall. It will have the same effect. It’ll make the room bigger and wider. But make sure that the colors work together. You won’t get that dramatic flair if your colors clash.
Accent walls can change the room’s temperature.
Can you believe the colors of the wall can influence the warmth or coolness of a room? The light that comes into your window, what direction does it come from? East, north, south, or west? East- or north-facing windows tend to make a room cooler. West- and south-facing windows make a room warmer. So where is your window facing? Once you know, use the right color to make your room warmer or cooler.
Accent walls can be an easy repair solution.
Was one wall damaged by a roof leak or a small fire or maybe your children’s artistic discoveries? Instead of trying to match the color to paint it over, you can choose a different color and paint it over the entire wall.
An accent wall can highlight a special part of the room.
Use accent walls to highlight a part of the room. Is it the custom sofa you designed yourself? Is it the trinkets you’ve collected from your travels? Or is there a special part of the room that you want to highlight?
Jackie (of @_the_minimalista_mama) wanted to highlight the big flat-screen TV and entertainment underneath, which is being drowned by the white walls.
She already had the tools and paint and she just needed to buy the wood for the accent wall. And that was a great element in this accent wall. Not only did Jackie paint it a different color than the rest of the walls, but she also added pieces of wood to add more depth to the wall.
And the final result looked great! The accent wall will make movie nights feel like really being at the theater.
