Nobody likes cockroaches.
They are creepy, gross, and, to some people, a sign of uncleanliness. While it’s true that a dirty home might attract cockroaches a lot faster than a clean one, these bugs can infest any home.
They are a problem in many parts of the world. Whether you are dealing with big ones or little ones, it’s not a fun experience.
When you see one cockroach, you can bet there are hundreds more hiding nearby.
They often make their nests in walls, behind electrical outlets and appliances, and in other dark, warm places. The bug sprays and bombs you buy at the store might kill some of them, but they rarely kill them all.
You can hire an expensive pest control specialist to get rid of these disgusting insects, or you can come up with your own cockroach poison and kill them yourself for a fraction of the cost. SF Globe recently shared a receipt for a cockroach bait that is cheap and easy to make and use. The roaches eat the bait and also carry some of it back to their nest, where they share it with others.
The recipe contains boric acid, which kills the roaches.
The cockroaches are attracted to the bait because of the sugar and egg ingredients. They don’t know they are also ingesting boric acid. It can take a few days before the insects start dying, but eventually, the entire nest will be dead.
Here’s how to make it:
Ingredients and supplies:
- A Bowl
- A Fork
- 100 Percent Boric Acid
- ½ Cup Sugar
- 1 Egg Yolk
- Gloves
Directions:
Step 1: Boil the egg until the yolk is hard.
Step 2: Put the egg in a bowl of ice water to cool it down quickly.
Step 3: Peel the egg and separate the white from the yolk.
Step 4: Set the egg white aside and put the yolk into a bowl.
Step 5: Slowly pour in 2.5 ounces of boric acid to the egg yolk bowl while smashing the egg yolk.
Step 6: Add ½ cup of sugar and continue to mix it well.
Step 7: Stir until the mixture is the same consistency as playdough. If it is too crumbly, add more sugar to soften it.
Step 8: Put on the gloves and roll the mixture into small balls.
Step 9: Put the balls inside your cabinets and under your appliances. You can place them anywhere you have seen a cockroach as long as children and pets can’t get to them.
Step 10: Watch as the cockroaches nibble the balls. They will take some of the food back to their nest to share with other roaches. The boric acid will slowly kill them all off.
You can try this recipe in your home, garage, or anywhere else where there is a cockroach infestation.
It works well for ants, too. Once the insects have found the bait and started eating it, they will be back to get more and send other roaches to dine on it, as well.
If you notice that the balls have been eaten but there are still a few roaches lingering around, make another batch and bait them again.
It could take up to two weeks to get rid of all the roaches in your home, but it’s a lot cheaper than hiring an exterminator. Even when homes are exterminated, roaches can return. Do you want to continue to pay someone to come to your home to kill bugs when you can just whip up this quick recipe and do it yourself? Of course not! Give this cockroach poison a try and say goodbye to roaches for good.
