White is a trending color right now. From white outfits to white-themed homes, this color is so aesthetically pleasing, yet so difficult to maintain. A tiny stain will shine prominently against the fabric and cleaning is such a pain. However, these 10 hacks will help you easily keep white things white.
1. Swipe some nail polish.
For thicker fabrics, such as sneaker fabric, you can brush on white nail polish to quickly hide spots or stains.
2. Don’t put your shoes in the wash.
It’s tempting to just toss your white shoes in the washing machine, but don’t do it. It’ll cause the white to fade.
3.Use a whitening pen.
Always keep a whitening pen on you, such as Tide To Go Stain Remover, so you can treat stains immediately.
4. Use a toothbrush.
For tight spaces, such as in between shoelaces, brush away residue. You can also use a toothbrush to scrub the dirt.
5. Mix like and like.
You always want to separate loads when washing. Keep whites in its own pile, and light colors don’t count because they can still stain the whites.
6. Use hot water.
The trick with white fabric is to wash with hot water. For towels, this trick is especially helpful to keeping them white and fluffy.
7. Use an optical whitener.
Optical whiteners have a blue undertone, which neutralizes the yellow of faded whites. A good brand is Mrs. Stewart’s Liquid Bluing, which gives an illusion of a brighter white.
8. Clean the walls.
Got dirty white walls? Start off with basic treatment of plain water and a soft cloth. If that doesn’t get rid of the dirt, try a solution of water and liquid detergent. If that also fails, paint over the walls with white paint.
9. Clean the floors.
Stains on white carpets are horrible. Clean them by wetting the carpet (not soak), covering with a soft cloth, and pressing down. Do not scrub the carpet as that may cause damage.
10. Maintain your sheets.
Wash white sheets with other white sheets and use an oxygen-based stain fighter, such as Oxiclean, to keep whites white. Make sure you don’t use bleach because that may break down fibers.
