If you love fresh fruit and veggies, you might want to consider growing your own produce garden. Growing your own food not only helps the environment, but it also can seriously help your wallet. You might have even read our article about how to regrow food from kitchen scraps, but now growing your own food has become easier than ever!
The furnishing giant and best meatball-maker, IKEA has made gardening news this week with the unveiling of their latest product, KRYDDA/VÄXER, which is an indoor hydroponic-based gardening kit. Don’t forget to check out the video down below for more details!
Hydroponic gardening sounds fancy, but it really just means that it’s a gardening system that uses water rather than soil. IKEA’s home garden kit comes with absorbent foam sponges that allow you to sprout seeds, no soil required. Once you have these beautiful little seedlings growing, you can transfer them to their own container of pumice stones which will help to keep your plant hydrated.
This handy kit also comes with a solar lamp and a sensor to let you know when to refill your plants’ water tray. Now you finally don’t have to stress about whether you’re overwatering or under-watering. Thankfully, this system is so simple that anyone can use them and it takes up hardly any space.
While this comes as a major departure from conventional furnishing, we’re happy to see Ikea taking some risks, especially on something so environmentally friendly. Hopefully we’ll begin to see more garden-geared products soon from Ikea!
As always, happy (hydroponic) planting!
