I’d like a show of hands. How many of you have thrown out perfectly good things? Things that were still usable and in good condition, but for whatever reason, they were now worthless to you.
Perhaps you’re downsizing your living space and need to declutter. Perhaps you are redecorating, and that sofa is going to clash with… everything.
Maybe someone you love—or used to love—is gone, and you just can’t stand having their things in your life anymore.
There are a lot of legitimate reasons for getting rid of stuff. The problem is, sometimes it can be a huge hassle. You’d like to give it to someone in need, but with larger items, that will often cost you, which is a little crazy. However, putting something to the curb means whoever is willing to haul it away can have it.
Here are 75 items that have been left at the curb.
1. Beanie Babies
In my family, Beanie Babies have been collected and passed down. The collection started by the oldest cousin is now in the hands of the next generation. But not everyone has family to pass things down to.
2. Who would know?
Would you know this cabinet was found at the side of the road? It looks as if it were specifically bought for this spot.
3. A little bit different
What an amazing use for an old fridge. There is a sign on the side of it that says take what you need and give what you can. And someone needs to be paying to power that thing too.
4. Once precious
How many little girls would dream of having a dollhouse like this? But little girls grow up. And now some other little girl can enjoy it.
5. Vintage rattan
If you can get past the drawers that look like giant breasts, this is a gorgeous dresser. You could leave as is or paint it any color you wanted.
6. Social distancing shield
Okay, that’s not what it is. It’s a rattan bookshelf. And that guy obviously was in the right place at the right time and managed to snag it—and schlep it home.
7. That’s very yellow
I think this is one of the new becomes old pieces of furniture. Something that it pretty much ‘70s in style but is now trendy again. Assuming you can get past the screaming color, of course.
8. From the boudoir?
Is it purple? Pink? Mauve? But it’s nice and long. You could stretch right out on this. Too bad there’s a broken leg.
9. Cool table
I think I’ve seen that table on old Jetson’s reruns. Very futuristic, so it wouldn’t fit with everyone’s décor.
10. Hanging basket chair
Frankly, that looks hella uncomfortable. But it does look awesome in its new home, doesn’t it?
11. Wake up! Wake up!
I’m sorry, but I cannot imagine stumbling out of bed in the morning and seeing those as I passed the living room on the way to the kitchen. I’d think I was still locked in a nightmare.
12. Beautiful dresser
That is gorgeous. Despite the color. And you can bet it’s solid wood and weighs an absolute ton. No Ikea like trash here.
13. Okay, wait
I think this whole Stooping this is an awesome idea. But someone put their turtle out for someone to pick up? That’s just wrong. I’m glad it was rescued.
14. Not just no. Oh hell, no!
This is horrifying. Who put this at the stoop? Beetlejuice? Willie Wonka? Dr. Suess? Did I miss anyone?
15. Art should speak to you
But I don’t think I like when it screams at me. But hey, if you have some wall space and are into not so soothing art, this haul could have been yours.
16. We’ll throw in the succulents
Look at this. A little bit of a lot. Carpet, chairs, a table, cabinets, a bookshelf, and even some cacti!
17. Hello!
That is such an awesome shade of blue! Having said that, I don’t know if I could have something with that much pop in my home. I like to crash with more subtle tones.
18. So perfect
Simple. Elegant. Functional. I can see this sitting in a front hall, perfect to sit on while your pulling on your boots or shoes.
19. Dear God
There’s more of this stuff? I actually went back and checked #11 to make sure this wasn’t the same thing, just shot in different light and looking a different color. But nope, this horror is the same but not the same as what we’ve seen before. And I was so blinded by it I didn’t even notice the damage.
20. LotLS
That stands for Land of the Loud Sofas. I’ve decided that’s what I’m going to start calling NYC. Because I have never seen so many of them all in one place.
21. I love it
But I wish this was a chair instead of a table. Wouldn’t it crack you up to see your friends sitting on this? Especially from behind?
22. Reminiscing
This is the color scheme of my first apartment. Blue and grey. However, there was no velour or velvet, whatever that is, an no buttons on the upholstery.
23. So retro
But one of these could be super useful. You could use it as a bar cart, which what it is, but it could double as a side table and so much more.
24. How… disturbing
Okay, this is probably the weirdest table I have ever seen. Then legs and shoes look far to real. But if you want some something to get your guests talking, this would do it.
25. Gone in seconds
This is useful. This isn’t something that you need to do a lot of work with. And it doesn’t weight a ton. Snapped right up.
26. Not for everyone
The workmanship on this is beautiful. And you know this is going to be solid wood, sturdy, and last forever. It’s just not a style everyone will love.
27. More blue
Was there a blue phase years ago, and before my time? There is a lot of blue furniture getting left at the curb. I’m guessing this is a sofa and love seat.
28. Hmm
Is it just me or does that look like the chair has been decorated from the pulls from beer and pop cans? That can’t be comfortable to sit on!
29. Mirror top?
I think we’re seeing a tree above. I hope. If so, this is actually a very cool table. And you could mix it with almost any décor.
30. Good condition
It’s hard to tell the quality of these, but they are in very good shape. And depending on the material, they might be easy to take. I bet these didn’t sit on the stoop long.
31. This old wardrobe
Even with the missing drawer, this could be a great find for someone. Not necessarily everyone’s style, but certainly functional.
32. Home office
I bet this was snapped up in a moment. So many people were or still are trying to set up functional home offices, and this would work great.
33. It’s scratched
But who cares? That could be sanded out and the whole cabinet stained in whatever finish you want. This would make an awesome TV console table.
34. On the stoop of an “establishment?”
This cannot have come from someone’s home, right? This looks like it’s seating from some sleezy club.
35. When you gotta have it
A lot of New Yorkers don’t have cars. So it must be tough when you see something you need to grab right away and you have no form of transportation. Until you realize you do.
36. Too bad it started to rain
You know, I love this idea of people purging and sharing. But you can’t control the weather. Someone put this out and it started to rain. And something tried to eat a leg.
37. Is it locked?
If so, is there a key? Is it locked and there is a treasure waiting to be found inside by whoever takes it and manages to get it open? So many questions,
38. I would have grabbed that
That is the perfect chair for a bedroom, IMO. Something you can sit on to put on your nylons as well as something you can toss of few clothes on. Or a whole pile of clothes if that’s your thing.
39. Seating for 4
They look like they are clean and in pretty good condition. Plus, grey has been a very popular color for several years now. I bet they were gone in a flash. Good dining room chairs are expensive.
40. Oh, too bad
Apparently, they have a nasty yellow stain on them. I guess if you are putting things out in the garbage, that’s okay. It’s not like you’re putting them up for sale.
41. Is it blue?
With a splash of white, or is it white and the lighting is making it look blue. Whatever, I’m sure it could be painted. And it is a very nice vanity.
42. Thoughtful!
This pale pink love seat may not be for everyone, but it looks like it’s still in great condition. And they’ve ever wrapped up the cushions, which is pretty sweet.
43. Ooh, new interior doors
French doors can’t be used in every door in your home, but they are nice to have. Think of one for your office or any other room that doesn’t demand privacy.
44. Perhaps it was a moment
I can’t imagine why anyone would have framed picture of a llama eating grass, but maybe it was a reminder of a moment. And the moment is gone, or best forgotten.
45. Cool bar cart
I was thinking this could make a good console table for a smaller TV. The holes in the top of this might make it a bit problematic, however.
46. A little roughed up
This antique has lived a good life. And it still has some life in it. It would make a great table for the front door. Those little drawers would be great for keys and such.
47. This funky chair
That orange is nearly neon. Actually, I think it is neon. And it’s not like it looks so comfortable someone had to buy it despite the color. Go figure.
48. Oh, I would
That is my kind of furniture. I’m not into curly ques and scroll work. But that thing would weigh a ton and be very hard to move.
49. Poor Pikachu
Sitting there like a king on a mountain of discards. But someone said, “Pikachu, I don’t choose you,” and despite being the king of discards, he is still a discard.
50. That’s dedication
I’m pretty sure that’s a couch they are hauling. And for those of you who don’t know NYC, they are heading down to the train. I’m not sure they’ll get it through the doors, but I’m sure they’ll try.
51. Fingerprints!
It’s a good size and it’s quite nice. Transporting it without breaking something won’t be fun. And there is the issue of trying to keep that thing clean. Nope.
52. Absolutely stunning
Just to clarify, I’m talking about the color! It’s like the water in Fiji. But a cat—or something—has been at that. And what else has the cat done to—or on—that?
53. What are people thinking?
That fabric is completely hideous. But you know what? If you’re up for spending the money, that could be reupholstered and the legs could be sanded and stained.
54. Who would take that?
How do you know if it was cleaned before it was put out? How does you know if some thankful homeless person has used it? Okay, some of that will be evident, but still.
55. There is a distinct trend here
Am I the only one cluing in to all the blue—in varying shades—velvet sofas that are being dumped at the roadside? I didn’t even know there was a blue velvet trend at some point in the past.
56. Oh, yeah
I can so see this hanging on the right wall with the right décor. The problem is, it will probably end up somewhere crammed on a wall too small for it.
57. That can’t be legal
In my city you would get slapped with a huge fine for this. And it’s probably the same in NYC. But someone crafty or a DIYer would probably love picking through that pile of paint.
58. Oh, that color again
I think we saw a sofa in this exact shade. I would pass on the sofa, but I would be all over this gorgeous chair. I would even redecorate a room for this chair.
59. It’s where it ought to be
It’s garbage day, and it’s at the curb. And that’s where it should be. I think this is the result of some crazy TikTok challenge. Hideous. But I think there were some equally hideous orange sofas it could go with.
60. Cute and girly
This has to be from a girl’s bedroom. Well, I say that based on the fact that I would have loved to have that in my room as a teen. Now? Not so much.
61. Twisted
I think someone with too much time on their hands took up a hobby. And perhaps they were a little disturbed. Am I the only one who sees people in this?
62. They are too bright
I can’t help but wonder when I see some of these. What is the rest of these people’s homes like? Are they a mishmash of color? Because what really goes with lime green?
63. Conversation piece
That looks amazingly uncomfortable. And I bet it one of those chairs where you feel like you should put a sign on it with the weight capacity so one of your larger friends doesn’t sit on it and then sue you when it crumpled beneath them and they cracked their skull.
64. Wow. Who gives these away?
Do people not realize to good of these plants? Whenever they are available for sale, they are snapped right up. Putting them out like that is an abomination!
65. Do people not have friends?
Why would you put a $500 designer bag out in the garbage? Surely you know someone how would take it, even if it does seem to be a questionable color.
66. Lawn art
Well, I have to say I’ve never seen anything like this. And it would take a special sort of person who would want to put that on their lawn. Or maybe it’s for inside? I really don’t know.
67. Selective seating
I’m thinking again of friends with butts that are a little larger. I would hate to have seats like this as the only thing visitors could sit on. I could only ever invite my skinny friends over.
68. This is beautiful
Not too mention huge. I think you might need some high ceilings for something like this. And a way to get it home.
69. Is it just me?
Does anyone else shudder at the thought of wearing someone else’s old shoes? And not a hand-me-down from an older sibling. Something from a stranger, that also sat out on the street for a while. Shudders.
70. So very pink
One of my nieces would kill to have this in her room. It also looks incredibly comfortable, so if pink were your thing, this would be a great find.
71. What do you think?
Can you see these in the same home as the pink chair? Perhaps even in view of each other? I’m not saying that is anything I would do—these chairs would never be in my home—but I can see someone making that design choice.
72. Thomas the Train!
At least I think it is. But even if it isn’t, that is one cool train, and I’m sure everyone knows a kid who would love to have it.
73. At least they put him in a tree
Some kid would love a giant teddy bear like that. Heck, I know adults who would love to have a giant teddy bear like that. But whoever gets him needs to be a climber too.
74. So sad
Look at him! All droopy and sad. Sitting out on the stoop because no one wants him anymore. And what if it rains? I hope he was rescued quickly.
75. Flamingo parts
Well, we’ve seen it all now. Flamingos with no legs. So exactly what are they good for? Maybe this is why they are in the garbage.
