Too often, we take for granted the art of many simple acts. The most mundane, routine moments hold a few surprises. Sure we know how to tie our shoelaces. But how do you do it? There are multiple ways to tie laces. It’s down to preference and style.
Five-year-old Colton is here with a home tutorial as to how he does his laces. Mom’s got the camera and the little fella is seated on the floor getting his red Nike sneakers on.
The one we learned as kids.
It was very tricky to learn the bunny ears as kids. Parents have spent more than a few minutes just to get their kids to tie their laces. The age of five to seven is where kids usually learn. It requires dexterity and patience.
And if we’re being honest, most adults still tie theirs the same way. Why change it if it’s not wrong? It works! But Colton, casually and very coolly, says he’s got his own way of looping and locking his. Show it!
“My name is Colton and there’s a new way to tie shoes.”
All that while brushing his blond hair to the side.
The kid is brilliant!
Colton struggles a bit trying to get his foot in the shoe. Mom even reminds him to loosen up the laces a bit. But he is a kid so he forces his foot in the red Nike. There you go.
He points towards the hole by the tongue of his shoe, the one nearest to his ankle, and he says to stick the aglet in there which he demonstrates for his mom. Colton does the same thing on the other side, sticking the aglet in the hole. Now he’s got those bunny ears on the sides!
Step by step.
Colton grabs hold of both ears, crossing them one over the other, then he does it again to make a double knot. Once done, he pulls out the lace ends that he stuck in the holes. Brilliant!
“I learned that from my friend, River.”
Says the handsome young man. And kudos to River as well!
Well, what do you know.
We learned something from a five-year-old. Colton says he tied his other shoe without the camera and that’s just fine, kid. He’s a very patient teacher, his instructions clear and easy to follow. Colton’s got that skill. What else can he do?
Well, Colton’s quick tutorial video has garnered 93k reactions on Facebook. Which means that adults all over the world have tuned in to see what they were doing wrong their entire lives. Doesn’t have to be complicated, does it?
Call it the Colton loop!
A viewer named Kimmy Olson shared,
“That’s how I learned to tie my shoes when I was younger !!! I always have others tell me they have never seen it before so its nice to know I’m not alone.”
