Once Jessie Lipskin saw the documentary “Garbage Warrior” she knew that that tiny home living was for her.
So she bought a 1966 GMC Greyhound bus on eBay.
She spent the next three years renovating the bus which is the same model Keanu Reeves Drove in “Speed”.
“My first draw to the alternative sustainable lifestyle was the documentary ‘Garbage Warrior‘,” Lipskin told Bored Panda. “[It] really resonated with me. I began to consume everything I could read, more about sustainable lifestyles. Ultimately, a home on wheels seemed like a perfect solution: I could easily explore new places (finding a permanent place to settle, in the short term, was not a priority for me), and I could continue to live a vegan lifestyle.”
She thought of buying an RV but later decided against it.
“RVs lacked the aesthetic I was going for, so I landed on a vintage bus conversion which could be registered and insured as an RV,” she explained.
The only problem was that she knew nothing about construction or renovation.
“I love DIY, however, I don’t have experience with plumbing, electrical, carpentry needed for this project,” she added.
So, she ended up hiring an architect to design her layout and a carpenter to build everything in it.
She ended putting a total of $125,000 into the project to create an eco-friendly mobile living space. But even then, the project wasn’t that easy.
“The big challenge was that it was very different from working on a home that’s fixed in one location. I constantly had to account for movement, on top of that the angles of the bus and slanted style windows made it challenging to design the best possible layout and curved woodworking. Levels were useless as the bus incline changes depending on location, it was all about calculating angles. This added a lot of time onto the project,” she said.
Lipskin’s home features hardwood flooring and windows throughout so the bus is filled with natural light. The home also has two sleeping spaces.
One is at the back of the bus and accommodates a full-sized mattress.
There is also a pull-out bed toward the front of the bus which serves as the second sleep area.
This tiny home also has three large closets and lots of other areas for storage. It’s also outfitted with dimming switches to control the amount of light to set the mood.
The kitchen includes a large sink and wooden drawers and lots of counter space.
It also has an oven, stove top, and hot water heater. The energy efficient washing machine and drying spinner are also located in the kitchen.
The bathroom, which is adjacent to the kitchen, features a standing shower and separate closet.
There are two central air units in the bus which are controlled by thermostats.
Unfortunately, Lipskin wasn’t prepared to drive such a large vehicle.
She found it to be unmanageable for her driving style and is selling her bus.
