We’ve all asked ourselves at some point in our lives – what makes a beautiful home? It’s certainly not the walls, the roof, or the furniture. Neither of these really makes a house a true home.

Any old house can be turned into a home, as long as you have a vision and are determined to carry it out despite all the difficulties along the way. And the best news is, you can do it all by yourself! If you’re having doubts about whether it’s actually possible, it’s time to show you how just one guy transformed a $12,000 house into a beautiful home of his dreams all by himself!

Where most of us see a simple country house, this guy saw a home of his dreams

In the beginning, there’s hardly much to see, the outside of the house showed a simple cinder block construction, a simple roof, and a wooden front porch. Certainly, not much to begin with, hence the initial renovation plan was modest.

“What I’m gonna do is just do the minimum on this house first. Again, like I said, I’m going to keep it simple,” said the man behind the project.

When the first renovation work begins, it’s not easy to imagine how the end result will look like. A home at this point resembles an empty shell, tumbledown, and cold, but as the floorboards get removed one by one, and the empty space starts to echo with the busy buzzing of the tools, you know you’ve made your first step towards your goal.

Renovating the house the small cinder block house would prove quite a challenge, even for a team of dedicated workers. and even more so for just one guy. A craftsman, entrepreneur, and a husband, known under the name ‘The Homestead Craftsman’, he’s made a name for himself teaching techniques to improve crafts and has published two kindle books.

“To be honest, I’m a little bit depressed, there’s more thing wrong with the house than I realized at first but that’s happened in every house I ever worked on,” he said on the very first day of the renovation.

The sage would continue for the next two years and 56 videos, showing every aspect of the renovation, from demolition, floor removal, installing plumbing, to painting and roof renovation, and ultimately making it look like a home!

After two years, lots of work and time invested in transforming the small house into a cozy little home, the effort finally paid off

Over 50 videos showing renovating the $12,000 cinder block house later, we finally get to see what we’ve all been waiting for! After the work was finally finished, the house passed the final inspection and was listed for rent, the house was soon afterward rented for $600 with the total investment standing at around $30,000.

In the place of an old rough cinder block house with a porch that was falling apart, we see a totally different exterior: the cinder block walls completely renovated and painted in lead grey, a roof redone and a new porch built.

“It is a wild difference in its exterior appearance, inside as well,” said the guy who did all the work as he headed towards the door of the new home.

‘A perfect place for a person who wants a one-bedroom house or place to live but doesn’t want to live in an actual apartment’

As we’re showed in we see a completely different layout compared to what it used to be when the renovation began. Coming through the front door, you find yourself straight in the living room connected to the kitchen, a bedroom, and a bathroom with its own closet. The kitchen, small yet comfortable, opens onto a small utility room and there’s also a back door. Vinyl plank flooring was installed throughout the house, giving it an elegant, clean appearance, as well as making it resistant to water.

“It’s basically a brand new house except for the center block walls, the roof structure, and the majority of the floors.”

After a tour of the bathroom and a small but functional kitchen, we can’t help but admire the work that has been done to transform the place from a rundown cinder-block house to a fully livable modern home.

“I’m extremely happy with the whole thing. I’d be more than pleased to live here myself. I’m very please with the way it turned out I just like how clean it is and I think the fact that it was one business day is how long it took to get this place right it really shows that having a nice place it attracted what I hope to be a perfect runner.”
