Well, this was what ran through the mind of Tim Seggerman even before he saw the house that his sister told him about. He was thinking about buying a property at the time, and his sister was quick to tell him that the house she saw is not good at all.

Apart from the issues on how the house looked, there were also various violations with the building department, which meant it would not be a simple and hassle-free transfer if he ever decided to purchase it.

Other buyers might think that a “crappy house” is not worth the investment, but Tim had a different idea in mind.

To the man, buying a house in this condition and transforming it into something ” really nice and simple” would be a great achievement. He saw everything as an opportunity to have a good project and be creative with it.

Unfortunately, he ended up destroying the entire house and decided to use the hole it left as half of the new building’s basement. He did not give up on it and decided to make things even better by constructing the house from scratch himself.

He was only allowed to build on the spot of the old property and so, the man set off and got to work.

In order to save more on the transformation, Tim focused on using only one type of wood: cypress. He used it in the house’s entire build, except for the glass windows.

Tim knew it was not going to be an easy project, but he was determined to complete it, even if it took him years to finish. And true enough, the house was completed after 15 years since he started.

Tim started on the project but had to stop for nine years due to issues with the property’s domain.

The PennEast Pipeline Company sent him a letter of eminent domain taking the property and Tim fought hard to keep it from being taken. He did what he had to do and finally, the company left because they could not continue the fight anymore.

Tim ultimately got the property and went back to building his project. After 15 years since he started, the home is finally done.

The cabin that Tim built is a modern and chic model that is made of things he created.

The cypress furniture is all inside the home, and they are made by no other than Tim. He even installed the ceiling of the cabin. It was initially made of wood, but he did not like that the cabin looked like a barn because of the ceiling so he changed it into sheetrock.

He is satisfied with the results of all his efforts, and seeing the results in a video uploaded on YouTube, people online also agree that his craftsmanship is definitely incredible.

His ideal design is inspired by Japanese interiors.

Tim believed that the Japanese were good when it comes to utilizing space so he patterned his design on how their houses are built. He made a movable wall in the bedroom, which is quite small so he wanted it to be as open as possible.

The wall would double as a closet door, which is also proof of how Tim loves things to be as functional as they can be.
